Softball

  • Western New Mexico is only 11-22, but freshman Stephanie Higgins (Mission Hills) is having a good season, hitting .390 with five homers. She leads the team with 12 doubles and 32 RBIs.
  • Megan Fryday (Mission Hills) is hitting .355 with eight RBIs at Caldwell College in New Jersey. In 11 starts at shortstop, she has 34 chances and only one error.
  • Ashton Corley (San Pasqual), playing at Bloomfield College, was her conference's player of the week after hitting .563 with five RBIs in games against Carlon and Concord.
  • Kristen Filicia (Torrey Pines) is hitting .282 with a homer and three RBIs after 13 games for Fairfield. Rebecca Trott (Poway) is 3-3 with a 4.59 ERA after eight appearances. She has 33 strikeouts in 33 1/3 innings.
  • Cassie Ford (Ramona), a freshman catcher/infielder at Colorado School of Mines, is hitting .241 with 14 RBIs in 21 starts.
  • Marissa Valdez (Valley Center/Palomar College) is starting at second base for a Drury University team that is 17-8. She's hitting .319 with 15 RBIs and six steals. Monica Villareal (Carlsbad/Palomar College) is 7-5 on the mound with a 1.57 ERA. She has 11 complete games and 64 strikeouts in 12 starts, covering 71 1/3 innings. Outfielder Regina Norris (Palomar College) is hitting .245 with five RBIs.
