Cardinals  5, Pirates 4:  May 5, 2014
Jared Reyes delivered an opposite-field walkoff double to score Nick Shenkman from second to give the Cardinals the come-from-behind victory.
 
Boosted by four strong innings from left-handed pitcher Shane Hoodman (seven strikeouts), the Pirates built a 4-0 lead, but the Cardinals rallied with four runs in the fifth. Sean Yackley’s RBI double plated the Cardinals’ first run and Eric Church, with runners on second and third, followed with a single to left. Church never stopped running and circled the bases after a pair of throwing errors to tie the game.
 
The Cardinals’ Angel Zamora coaxed a leadoff walk in the bottom of the sixth. After Shenkman hit into a force play, Reyes ended the game with a two-out line drive that landed narrowly inside the right-field foul line.
 
Zach Pratte (two-run single), Craig Freeze (RBI single) and Noah Madole (RBI single) had key hits for the Pirates. Mason Lucero added a double and leadoff man Connor McKelvey went 2-for-3  for the Pirates.
 
Paul Wagner lined a pair of hits for the Cardinals (9-6). Left-hander Jimmy Campbell worked the final two innings to pick up the victory.
  
Cardinals 7, Angels 5:  May 3, 2014
Jared Reyes and Sean Yackley contributed RBI doubles as part of five-run first inning  and the Cardinals turned back a late Angels’ rally to capture their seventh win in their last nine games.
     
Paul Wagner and Jimmy Campbell chipped in with RBI singles for the Cardinals (8-6).
    
Jason Gagnon belted a two-run homer to center field in the first inning for the Angels. Matthew Wilson (2-for-3, RBI),  Jag Burden (single, two walks) and Nathan Capelouto (double) helped the Angels’ comeback bid. Dominic Ventimiglia cut into the Cardinals’ lead with an RBI single in the sixth.
     
Reyes, the Cardinals’ shortstop, had two hits and made a sensational diving catch on a pop fly into shallow center field. Eric Church, Joey Legg, Nick Shenkman and David Drigla each had singles as part of the Cardinals’ nine-hit attack.  By D. Lewis.

Hot Rods 16, Express 5:  May 3, 2014

Quentin Custodio and AJ Hurtado both homered to drive the Hot Rods to a 16-5 win over the Express Saturday, May 3 in Minor A action. The Hot Rods raised their record to 7 and 2 and moved to just a half game behind the league leading Express (7-1-1).

Hurtado's and Custodio's home runs, their seventh and fourth on the year respectively, led a 16-hit attack by the Hot Rods. Hurtado belted three doubles in addition to his homer and Custodio had a double and a single to go with his round tripper. Hurtado led the Hot Rods in runs, scoring five times.

Gavin Kells, Myles Lopez and Wyatt Smith each collected two hits for the hot hitting Hot Rods, and Carson Jones, Van Harmon, Carson Webb each chipped in with a hit.

The Hot Rod pitching was also running on all cylinders for most of the game. Hurtado pitched five scoreless innings, striking out 11 while giving up only two hits.

Matt Hernandez led the Express with two hits (both doubles), and Dylan Simonds, Lucas Flynn, and Nico Hagadorn each reached base on a hit also. Steven Venetantis, along with Simonds, Flynn, Hagadorn and Flynn each scored a run.
