TOC Game Highlights - 6/8/13 - 6/13/13

6/13/13 - OVLL Iron Pigs (13) v. Fountain Valley Angels (0)

Iron Pigs continue their winning streak as they faced the Fountain Valley Minor A Angels.  Owen Wessel starts it off with a double followed by singles from Nate Skorheim and Luca Pantel.  Skorheim steals home and Druce Faleafine slams a double.  Iron Pigs score 5 runs their first inning.  Iron Pigs starting pitcher, Nate Skorheim, throws only 8 pitches with the help of some quick defense from L. Pantel and Nick Skorheim.  Momentum kicks into full gear for the Iron Pigs in the second inning with bases loaded and Nate Skorheim cracks one over the fence.  Iron Pigs are up by 9 going into the third.   Angels start to hit but are shut down by strong Iron Pigs defense.  Hits by Mikey Caira, Isaac Ballinas, and Mikey Pantel all contributed to the Iron Pigs victory.  Mikey Pantel showed his talent on the bump closing out the game in the 4th inning.

6/12/13 – OVLL Iron Pigs (8) v. Huntington Valley Panthers (3)

Iron Pigs take their second tournament victory against Huntington Valley Panthers.  Iron Pigs took the lead in the first inning with a double from Owen Wessel, RBI from Nate Skorheim and a single from Lucas Pantel.  Iron Pigs strong defense and starting pitcher Nick Skorhiem allowed no runs until the 4th.  Hits from Wessel, L. Pantel, Mikey Caira, Isaac Ballinas and a home run from Nate Skorheim bring the score 6-0.    In the fourth inning, Keith Pouliot hits a double and Isaac Ballinas RBI's pushes the Iron Pigs ahead.  Panthers try to rally but solid pitching and great defense from Mikey Pantel, Owen Wessel and an amazing catch from Mikey Ciara turn the inning.  A solid performance on the mound from closing pitchers L. Pantel and Wessel put pressure on Huntington Valley.   Bottom of the sixth, Panthers are able to score 2 but in the end the Iron Pigs take the victory 8 to 3.   

6/10/13 - OVLL Stars (4) vs. Seaview 1 (9)

The OVLL Minor A Stars gave their best against Seaview 1 at TOC co-host field Robinwood on June 10.

The Stars’ Anthony Kumaric went 2 for 3 at the plate, doubling in the first inning to bring home teammate Chad Lux and give the Stars an early 1-0 lead. Seaview answered by scoring two runs in the first on an error and a bases loaded walk by Ethan Vanderwaas. One run in the top of the fifth helped the Stars close its deficit to 3-2. Then it was Stars pitcher Danny Gallardo who struck out the side to end the inning. But Seaview quickly matched a Stars strong inning with a six-run inning in the fifth. Seaview went on to score on a two-run single by Will Hooper, and a two-run double by Vanderwaas. Two runs in the top of the sixth helped the Stars close the deficit to 9-4, helped by an RBI single by Lux. But Seaview pitcher Clay Kaneko retired the inning to secure the victory for Seaview. Final score Seaview 9, OVLL 4.  

6/10/13 - OVLL Iron Pigs (17) v. Sea View Angels (5)

The OVLL pig pen came alive early in the game against the Seaview Angels at Ocean View field on June 10.

The game started with an Owen Wessel hit to the fence, followed by singles from Nate Skorheim, Luca Pantel, Mikey Caira and Joe Moore to give the Iron Pigs a five-run lead in the first inning. Pigs pitcher Nick Skorheim and a strong defense allowed only one run for the Angels’ first at bat. Skorheim hit another single, followed by a double by Pantel, and singles from Druce Faleafine and Mikey Caira accounted for five more runs for the Pigs. In the fourth inning, the Pigs’ Isaac Ballinas stole home on a past ball, followed by a hit to center by Wessell that scored Mikey Pantel. Then a double by Nate Skorheim increased the lead to13-1. An Angels comeback put some runs on the board, but pitching from Wessel and great defense ended the Angels rally. Final at bat for the Pigs, Nick Skorhiem blasted one to the fence followed by a big hit from J.C. Cargasacchi to end the game in five innings. Final score OVLL Iron Pigs 17, Seaview Angels 5.
