Majors

5/1/13 – Reds 7, Orioles 1

Reds take Orioles 7-1.  Reds took the lead in the first with a two RBI single from Benjamin Davis.  Singles by Daniel Williams, Jon Gottschalk, Dominic Ventimiglia, and a double from Rowan Dupras helped keep the momentum going for the Reds.

Reds scored four more in the second with an RBI single by Gavin Kennedy and three more crossed the plate when Mason Stinson hit his third home run of the season.

Reds' ace pitching triad of Williams, Lucas Catano, and Gavin Kennedy kept the Orioles scoreless until the sixth inning when Cole Kennedy had an RBI single plating Mason Lucero. Strong pitching by Jag Burden and Seth Knorr for the Orioles idled Reds' bats until the fifth when Stinson scored off a fly ball by Kennedy.  Singles by Blake Christiano, Stinson, and Williams offensively in concert with great defensive plays in the field from Dane Hart and Catano for the Reds allowed them to take the victory.  By OVLL Correspondent

4/22/13 - Angels 11, Reds 3

Despite six hits, Reds lose to Angels 11-3.  Lucas Catano racked up two RBIs on one hit for the Reds and tripled in the second. Mason Stinson had a good day on the bump as the Angels managed just one hit off of him.  Stinson allowed no earned runs, one walk, and struck out three during his two innings.  The Angels were sparked by Hunter Baclig and Christian Cook who teamed up for four hits and three RBIs.

It was the top of the second when the Reds took the early lead, 2-0 after Dominic Ventimiglia singled and Catano tripled, scoring Rowan Dupras and Ventimiglia.  But it was in the fourth that the Angels scored six runs on a fielders choice, two singles and an RBI double by Baclig.  One run in the top of the fifth helped the Reds close their deficit to 6-3 but it wasn't enough for the Reds as the Angels responded with five runs in the fifth.   By OVLL Correspondent

Minor A

5/4/13 – Hot Rods 7, Red Wings 3

Five Hot Rods pitchers teamed up on a two-hitter to keep their squad within a half-game of the Minor A lead.  Gavin Kells got the Hot Rod offense off to a quick start, as his two-run double was the key blow in a five-run first inning for the hosts. Micah Kennedy was 2-for-3 and scored twice for the winners.  The Red Wings mounted a rally in the final inning, drawing four straight walks after a leadoff single, but A.J. Hurtado struck out three straight batters with the bases loaded to preserve the win.  By E. Maddy

5/3/13 - Bats 10, Rivercats 6 (7 innings)

Lucas Flynn smashed a bases-loaded triple in the top of the seventh inning to snap a 6-all tie and lift the Bats past the Rivercats. The Bats (4-3-1, 7-8-1 overall) had filled the bases on walks to Dylan Uerling, Jake D’Amico and David Drigla before Flynn lined the ball past third base. Samuel Mejia gave the Bats a four-run cushion with an RBI groundout.  D’Amico pitched 1.1 innings of stellar relief to get the win. Nick Shenkman (2-for-3, double, two RBI) and William Brooks (2-for-3, two RBI) sparked the Bats’ offense.  The Rivercats rallied from a 6-1 deficit, tying the game on back-to-back RBI singles by Michael Rubly and Micah Blake in the fifth. Rubly earlier hit a run-scoring triple and Jack Jernigan lined a two-run single in the fourth to make it 6-4. Reliever Porter Reynolds held the Bats scoreless in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.  By OVLL Correspondent

5/2/13 - Knights 11, Iron Pigs 7

Thursday was an exciting midweek baseball game between the Knights and the Iron Pigs.   The real excitement started in the 2nd inning when Iron Pigs Owen Wessel hits a home run with 2 on base giving the Iron Pigs a 6-2 lead.  Next at bat, Knights fought back hard facing Nick Skorheim on the mound, AJ Valle sends one out of the park inching the score closer and in the 4th inning Valle hits another home run giving the lead to the Knights.  The Knights take the win, 11-7.

4/27/13 - Bats 9, Bulls 3

Pitcher William Brooks allowed two runs on two hits in four solid innings to pace the Bats. Jake D’Amico went 2-for-2 with a double and three RBI and leadoff hitter David Drigla scored three times to ignite the Bats’ attack.  Nick Shenkman delivered a two-run single and Samuel Mejia lined an opposite-field RBI double during the Bats’ five-run second inning, taking a 6-2 lead. Lucas Flynn went 1-for-2 with an RBI and Jason Malter scored twice for the Bats, who improved to 3-3-1 in league and 6-8-1 overall. Chris Soto had an RBI single for the Bulls.  By OVLL Correspondent
