Bees vs. Threshers (last game of the season)

Posted by Bill Church at May 23, 2012 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
The Bees and Threshers met on a beautiful Saturday morning to conclude their respective seasons in Minor C.

For the Threshers, both Ryland Shuster and Luke Walpole had incredible games, as they both pitched very well and also contributed at the plate.  Shuster doubled to right field in the 2nd inning, scoring Walpole.  Later, Alex Yee added a big double to centerfield for the Threshers.

For the Bees, Kyle Palmer struck out the side during his inning on the mound, and Matthew Aguirre and Kyle Donoho contributed at the plate as well as in the field for the Bees.

A.J. Hurtado beat out an infield single to bring home Gavin Kells for the walk-off victory as the Lookouts kept their season alive with a two-run rally in the sixth.

The win came one day after the Lookouts made up a seven-run deficit, only to lose in extra innings to the Mudcats, 9-8.

Against the Mets, the Lookouts trailed, 9-8, going into the their final at-bat. Logan Ronchi walked to open the sixth inning and eventually scored on an errant throw to tie it. Kells coaxed a two-out walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch and stole third, setting up Hurtado’s heroics. Hurtado finished with three hits.

Joey Gentilella (3-for-3) slugged a two-run, opposite-field homer in the fifth to help the Mets build an 8-4 lead. Antonio Ventimiglia delivered two hits for the Mets, including a booming double. Defensively, Mets shortstop Miles Elliott made a pair of lunging catches on line drives to shut down Lookout rallies.

The Lookouts tied it with a four-run rally in the bottom of the fifth, highlighted by Kells’ RBI double. Brandon Wood dashed home with the tying run on a wild pitch.

In his first starting assignment,  Lookouts pitcher Isaac Ballinas turned in a solid 2-2/3 innings, while Ethan Choi got the victory in relief.

David Drigla scored twice and made a sparkling catch in right field for the Lookouts (12-5-1 overall).
