Lookouts 14, Thunder 10

A.J. Hurtado of the Lookouts couldn’t have scripted a better finish. The 8-year-old cleanup hitter crushed a towering fly ball over the center-field fence for a walk-off grand slam with one out in the fifth inning, giving the Lookouts their 10thwin in their last 11 games.

The Thunder had rallied for three runs in the top of the fifth for a 10-8 lead. But the Lookouts responded with six runs in their final at-bat. Trent Cleboski and Hayden Peebles reached on infield hits and both later scored on Gavin Kells’ single over the third-base bag, tying the game at 10-10. Ethan Choi (three runs) walked to load the bases and Hurtado (3-for-4, 6 RBI) followed with his first Minor B home run, easily clearing the 150-foot sign in center.

The Thunder jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the second inning. However, the Lookouts (10-2-1 overall, 5-1 in league play) responded with eight unanswered runs over the next three innings. David Drigla provided the Lookouts with 2-2/3 innings of solid relief, keeping the game in reach. Drigla struck out six and retired two batters on comebackers.
