In a matchup of the first and second place teams in the league the Bulldogs (12-6-1) were nipped 2-0 at Morton Field in a pitchers duel between two of the league's best.
Reading knew in order to beat the two-time ICL Pitcher of the Year Jared Freni (7-0, 1 unearned all season) they would need to play a perfect game and take advantage of the few chances they would have to score against the Malden righty.
However, the Bulldogs did not succeed as the Chiefs scored both their runs with small ball in their only two opportunities against the strong pitching of Taylor Robinson and offensively they could not get the big hit over the final three innings.
The Bulldogs had five hits and three other base runners but four runners were stranded in scoring position as Freni was able to get out the jam each time. The last time was in the seventh when Brandon Bingel and Dante Padovani singled with one out but were left on the bases and with that the Bulldogs six game win streak was ended by the defending champs.
