Corey DiLoreto Secures Reading Win with Walk-Off Single

Posted by John Halsey on Jul 09 2017 at 05:00PM PDT

WALK-OFF ALERT ??!! The Bulldogs take their third game in a row in dramatic fashion with a walk-off single by Corey DiLoretto in the bottom of the 7th to beat the Wakefield Merchants. On the mound for Reading Alex Mandrus and Jack Theriault combined to give up only 2 runs on three hits, with Mandrus receiving the no-decision and Theriault picking up the win. The bats continued to stay hot as Reading tallied up 12 hits in way to the 3-2 victory.

Trailing 1-0 early, Reading’s scoring started in the second when Johnny Hayes and Darren Hartwell hit back to back singles, followed by a walk for Rosario Missiti which loaded up the bases. With two outs, Kevin Marciano came up big as he smoked a 2 RBI single up the middle to take a 2-1 lead.

The score remained 2-1 until Wakefield tied it in the 6th, ultimately sending the game to the bottom of the 7th tied at 2-2. Bulldogs catcher Chris Bosco has been on fire this entire season and proved that to be true yet again as he sent a double out to deep left center that barely missed clearing the fence. Now on second with one out, Bosco stole third base to set-up Corey DiLoretto with a great opportunity to end the game. DiLoretto did just that as he roped a line drive single to right field and plated Bosco for the game winning run.

Bosco, DiLoretto, and Marciano seemed to be in the middle of everything for the Bulldogs tonight combining for 7 hits and all 3 RBI’s.

Reading looks to keep their win streak going on Wednesday night as they travel to play the Andre Chiefs.
