USA Wrestling Information

Posted by David Gerdner on May 23 2011 at 05:00PM PDT

If you wrestle beyond our regular Twin County league events, you will frequently encounter a club, camp, tournament, etc. which will indicate that all participants must have a "USA Wrestling Card".  This commonly comes up when wrestlers wish to enter one of the State Championship Qualifier tournaments, but can come up at other times, as well, such as when you wish to  join a private club.  This section describes what USA Wrestling is all about.

NOTE: if you only wrestle in our Twin County events (Saturdays, Skip Bailey, Districts, etc) you do not need to worry about this.

What is "USA Wrestling"?

USA Wrestling is an organization which serves many purposes, such as running the kids state championships in many states across the country.  One of its primary purposes, however, is to provide medical and liability insurance to wrestlers and organizations. If an organization (such as, say, Olympic Wrestling Club) joins USA Wrestling, and enforces a policy that they only accept participants who also have joined USA Wrestling, they are provided with liability insurance, and the wrestlers are provided with secondary medical insurance for any injuries that they might sustain.

What does it cost?

Membership is $35/year, with memberships always starting on September 1.  Note that if you purchase a membership on July 1, the cost will be $35 but it will still expire on August 31.

How do I get a membership?

Sometimes if you fill-out an application for an event, they will indicate that you can send an extra $35 (or more, at their option) and they will do the paperwork for you, and provide you wish a membership card when you arrive.  You can, however, also obtain a membership online -- and even print your card online.  Instructions can be found on this web site under "Join/Renew USA Wrestling".
