Travel baseball consists of very competitive teams and unfortunately not all of our young and promising players who try out can be asked to participate on a team. Travel is not REC and unfortunately not everyone will be chosen for a team. As parents, please make sure your child is aware that there is a possibility that he/she will be cut and with that will come disappointment. We would hope and encourage that all the kids continue to play recreation baseball with their friends and continue to work to improve their skills and consider coming back the following season and trying out again. Travel Baseball requires a significant commitment on both the player and his/her family. Players are expected to be at all of the practices and games throughout the season. For kids playing multiple sports during the season, we ask that baseball takes priority. If you anticipate potential conflicts or missed games due to participation in other sports or club teams etc…, please consider that there are other players who would be 100% committed to baseball.
The TLL Board of Directors and coaches/volunteers take these tryouts very seriously and will do everything in their power to make it is fair as possible for everyone involved. We understand that these are young children and everyone develops differently and will give them every opportunity by striving to make it an even playing field for all candidates. Unfortunately, we will be making some very difficult decisions and we ask that you understand and manage your and your child’s expectations accordingly.
We are very happy to announce that the eligibility requirement to play Tenafly Travel Baseball will now be based on a player’s age and no longer on the grade he/she is in. The TLL Board of Directors has made this change based on the requirement of the league’s our travel teams will be playing in. All of the leagues we considered and most importantly the league(s) that we have chosen are set-up by age which should help make our teams more competitive and fun. We will be fielding 1 team in each of the following age groups: 8U, 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U, 13U and 14U for the 2009 Spring season. Based on the amount of interest at each age level, each team will consist of approximately 12 players allowing playing time for every kid on the roster. TLL Travel will be participating in the North East Bergen All Stars Spring League (NEBAS) and information on the league can be found at http://www.eteamz.com/nebas.
A player is eligible to participate in a particular age level based on the player's age on May 1, 2009. If a player chooses to tryout for a team in an age group older than what he/she is eligible, he/she is more than welcome to do so. The player is also encouraged to tryout for his/her age appropriate team as well to ensure his/her chances on making either team. A player who tries out for an older age team and does not make it will not automatically be placed on his/her age appropriate team unless he/she tries out for that team and makes it. In order to help determine what age group your child should be playing, please utilize the little league age calculator located on this website.
