Posted by Paul Dixon Jr. on May 08 2012 at 05:00PM PDT in 2018
The Dayton Rangers and South Dayton Slammers met for the first time this season at Xenia High School in a battle of two veteran clubs. Jeff Beall, who appeared in 17 games for the Slammers last year, took the mound for the home team. The Rangers jumped out to the quick 1-0 lead as Jonmarc Lippincott doubled and came home on a 2 out double from Ian Huss. The Slammers responded in their half of the first inning as Jason Jamerson continued his hot start by hitting a 2 run HR after a Matt Owens walk. The Rangers were able to plate 3 runs in the 4th inning on four hits, with Huss getting his second double. The Slammers tied it at 4-4 as Mason Rose scored on a Michael Galaska single and Galaska later scored from second on an errant pick off attempt. The Rangers didn't quit as they took the lead again in the 5th inning by scoring 3 runs on a 2 run HR from Jelani Arnold and solo shot from Huss. But in their 5th the Slammers were able to get to Ranger starter Shawn Schmitt by batting around and scoring 5 runs. Jamerson led off the inning with his second HR of the game and RBI singles from Micah Wilson and Rose and a 2 run triple from TJ Ray rounded out the scoring. In the 6th inning the Slammers put the game out of reach by scoring 7 runs, highlighted by Justin Dunlap's 2 run HR as the Slammers finished with 16 hits on the day. The Rangers scored twice more as the Slammers improved to 5-0 with a 16-9 win. Beall gets his first win of the year and Sean Casey finished out the last 3 innings of the victory for the save.
