Our second tournament of Spring 2009 season, Bay State Bandits Mother’s Day Bash, began with a strong start defeating a young Brewster Rockets team 12-0 with a 1-hit shutout. We entered our second game against the RI Lightning (the eventual tournament champion) with an injury to one of our players and followed by a poor showing by our normally strong defense lead to a 5-4 loss. Our third game consisted of a team ready to redeem itself. The opposing Southern Maine Flames, a strong team in itself, did not deter the 12U CT Bombers Black. With lock down pitching and an aggressive offense, we won 10-0 giving us the #5 seed. Sunday’s start showed the girls came ready to play. We won against the Pride, 11-0 behind 1-hit shutout ball game. Next up we met the Firecracker’s Fury (probably the best team we had faced yet). Against the Fury’s strong pitcher, our team demonstrated how determined they could be to win. The made the necessary adjustments and hit many extra base hits to power our team to an impressive 6-2 victory, sending us to the semi-finals. In the semi-finals we met a well-seasoned #1 seed Middlesex Crossfire and at this point, the Bomber girls ran out of gas, falling 5-3. Overall, it was a fun weekend that really tested the team willingness and determination to rise up in the face of adversity. Great job!!
