Posted by Ron Slater on Aug 11 2009 at 05:00PM PDT
The NCLL Senior All-Stars defeated Southern Cal Champions Corona National Little League 2-1 on Tuesday night, to win the 2009 Senior League Baseball Western Regional Tournament.

NCLL will be the U.S. West representative in the 2009 Senior League Baseball World Series in Bangor, Maine.
NCLL went 6-0 in the tourney, outscoring their opponents 62-20 and beating the state champions of Montana, Alaska, Oregon, and Hawaii, then beat the Host League (Canyon Hills LL - Southern Cal) 14-5 in the Semi-Championship game on Monday to advance to Tuesday's finale.

Jack Veronin went the distance on the mound for NC, scattering 4 hits, striking out 5, and issuing no walks over 7 innings, and finishing with a total of just 78 pitches. Both infield and outfield play was stellar throughout, as NC committed no errors in the game. Third baseman Marc Wik scored the first run in the 1st inning on a sequence of passed balls and errors. NC then added their final run in the 4th following back-to-back doubles by Billy Nevin and Bryce Fryan. Corona scored their only run in the 6th.

The Senior League World Series begins on Saturday August 15 with Opening Ceremonies. NCLL will begin tournament play on Sunday, August 16 vs. the Philippines.  On August 17 they face South Carolina, August 18 vs.  Canada and August 20 they play the host team from Maine.

Good luck NCLL Senior All-Stars!
