Posted by Randy Emery on Jan 26 2009 at 04:00PM PST in Canfield Hockey 2018-2019

The Cardinals still have a chance to make the playoffs for the 2008-09 campaign, but will most likely need to win out and hope that NDCL is upset by Garfield Hts. or  Midview.  The Cards are two games behind NDCL and play them Feb. 7th at Mentor.  Canfield has a large task this Friday (Jan 30) taking on Bay Village who come into the contest 7-0-1 in GCHSHL Blue South play.  The lone tie came Sunday against NDCL. Canfield is riding a hot streak with victories in 3 of the last 4 games with the one loss coming in o.t. to Mooney/Ursuline. Canfield has never finished with a winning record in league play, coming close in 2006-07 at 6-6 in the division. The Cards are also shooting for most wins in a season also by the 2006-07 team with 13. This year Canfield is 9-11 overall and 3-4 in the GCHSHL Blue South,  with 4 regular season games plus state playoffs to play. The Cards will honor seniors Saturday (Jan 31) vs Orange at Noon (Ice Zone) and Sunday will play Brush in a non-league game at 1p.m. Sophomore, Riley Emery,  is closing in on the single season record for points in a season (41) held by Andy Davis 2003-04.  Emery has 36 points, 21 goals and 15 assists.  Also, sophomore, Joe Geiser and Emery are closing in on goals scored in a season (26) currently held by Sam Crowe 2003-04.  Geiser has 22. All games this weekend are at the Ice Zone.  Canfield students are admitted free to all games.
