Cardinals fall to Golden Bears

The Thomas Worthington High School girls basketball team stayed with second-seeded Upper Arlington through the first quarter of their second-round matchup in the Division I district tournament.

However, the visiting Cardinals, who trailed 14-12 after the first quarter, were outscored 31-10 in the second and third quarters combined en route to a 49-35 loss Feb. 20 to finish 7-15.

Jenna Anderson had 11 points and Jada Sleet scored 10 to lead Thomas, which was seeded 36th of 47 teams and had a first-round bye. UA improved to 22-1 and advanced to play 16th-seeded Watterson in a district semifinal Thursday, Feb. 27.

The contest marked the third meeting between Thomas and UA this season. The Cardinals were swept by the Golden Bears in OCC-Central Division play, falling 57-23 on Dec. 23 and 48-42 on Jan. 17.

UA won the OCC-Central championship, going 13-1 to finish ahead of Dublin Coffman (12-2), Olentangy Liberty (10-4), Westland (8-6), Marysville (6-8), Thomas (5-9), Central Crossing (1-13) and Hilliard Davidson (1-13).
