Good Pitching, BIG Hits Add Up To Cubs Victory

Posted by Billy Daniel on Apr 30 2007 at 05:00PM PDT
The Cubs scored 3 in the 1st, 2 in the 6th and coupled with solid pitching, rung up a 5-1 win over the Royals tonight. Story of the game: Miles threw 5 very efficient innings, gave up 2 hits, 1 run and had 5 strikeouts, while Will accounted for all scoring with a 3 run homerun in the first and a 2 run double in the sixth. Josh closed out the game in the 6th, facing only 4 batters, giving up 1 hit, striking out 2 and getting a groundout to 1st. In all, Miles and Josh threw a complete game 3 hitter using only 74 pitches, giving up only 1 run and walking 0 batters. Way to go, guys! Our scoring was confined to the first and last inning. In the first, Cabell singled, Marcus doubled and with runners on 2nd and 3rd, Will came up to bat. On a 2-2 count, he dialed 0 for Long Distance and launched a long, long ball out over the right center fence that flew over the head of Vince T. Sr., who was making his fashionable late entrance. In the 6th, Robey and George both worked the pitcher for walks, with George later being called out on a fielders choice by Marcus. Will then smacked a high double that dropped in and scored both Robey and Marcus and that is our scoring summary. Other Notes: * We had 7 hits tonight, with Cabell getting a single and a double, Miles and Wyatt getting singles, Marcus with a double and Will with his tater and the double. *Good defensive plays by Parker at 2nd, Anthony at 2nd and 1st, Marcus in CF, Wyatt at SS, Josh behind the plate and Will at 1st *In the 1st inning, we had one of the few, possibly only, left handed, left side of the infield combinations in Fleet Park history with Vince at 3rd and Will at SS. Next game is this Friday at 6 for a two game stand against the Orioles.
