Cubs Win a White Knuckler Against The Tigers

Posted by Billy Daniel on Apr 27 2007 at 05:00PM PDT
On a dreary Thursday afternoon at Fleet Park, the Cubs rallied for a very close 4-3 victory over the vastly improved WCLL Tigers. The Cubs were behind the entire game, with the Tigers striking for 3 runs in the 1st inning compared to our 1 run. However, the pitching of Vince and Marcus kept them at bay the rest of the game and with a run here and a run there, the Cubs improved to 6-1. Story of the game...Anthony's clutch single in the 6th for the game winning RBI. Anthony drilled a 2-1 fast ball into right and Josh, who had doubled, scooted home with the game winning score. Quick game recap: The Tigers scored all of their run in the 1st inning, aided by a couple of walks and 2 scorching line shots down the 3rd base line. After that, the duo of Vince and Marcus settled down and held them scoreless the rest of the game. Vince threw 4 innings, allowed 4 hits and struck out 6. Marcus came on in the 5th, allowed no runs or hits, only walked two and had 5 strikeouts. In addition to Anthony's game winning hit, Josh had 2 hits, including a double. Marcus, Miles, Wyatt and Cabell had singles and Sam chipped in with a hard hit double to left center. Defensive play of the game had to be Wyatt's Derek Jeter-like field and throw in the 3rd inning. Wyatt went deep in the hole, backhanded a hard hit grounder, instantly righted himself and threw a strike to a stretched out Will at first, just beating a very fast lefthanded batter to first. Next game is Saturday against our NBLL comrades, the Orioles.
