Bombers Blast 12 More Hits, Trounce Tigers 13-4

Posted by Jim Morrison on May 03 2009 at 05:00PM PDT

The Yankees' bats thundered out 12 hits Saturday as they toppled the Tigers 13-4. Cabell Thomas, Alec Tekamp, Ryan Dixon, and Cabell Thomas each had two hits, but it was a team effort, with every Yankee getting a base knock.

Jason Martinez worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the first without damage and went on to strike out eight in five innings. Zach Tekamp worked an easy sixth, striking out two.

The Yankees scored twice in the first inning when Zach singled, Cabell walked, and Marshall Carney singled. Ryan Dixon's single scored Cabell with the second run. In the third, the visitors scored three more times on a walk to Alex, a singled by Zach and a walk to Jason. Marshall was hit by a pitch, then Ryan Dixon came through again in the clutch with a single down the line.

Alex Tracey reached on an error to open the fourth inning, then came around on a single by Alec and a double by Cabell. Gray opened the fifth inning with a single then went to second on Danny DeSmit's walk before Jessie Kane came up with the big hit, a shot to right field. Alex followed with a run-scoring single, then Alec plated another with a hit. Gray scored the final run in the sixth on a walk and a steal before Danny's scorching liner to left sent him home.

On defense, the Yankees were solid with Alec making a beautiful backhand play at shortstop. They surrendered only one throwing error, which led to two of the Tigers runs.
