Marshall Mashes Monstrous Bomb, Yankees Rock Royals

Posted by Jim Morrison on May 03 2009 at 05:00PM PDT

Marshall Carney's monstrous two-run homer into the woods behind the left field fence highlighted a nine-hit Yankees attack as the Bombers rocked the Royals 12-2 in five innings Friday at Fleet Park. Cabell Thomas allowed just two hits and struck out five to earn the victory.

The Yankees ran the bases aggressively and used timely hitting, scoring in every frame. Zach Tekamp came on for one pitch in relief, inducing a weak pop to shortstop to end the game.

In the first inning, Zach lined a singled to right with one out, then scored on a screaming double to center field by Cabell Thomas, who has found his sweet stroke. Jason Martinez followed with a laser to left to score  Cabell before Ryan Dixon's hot shot to left closed out the scoring in the inning.

In the second, Jack Broach walked with two outs. Danny DeSmith smoked a ball to center and they both scored on the ensuing error. Alex Tracey was hit by a pitch to open the third inning and he scored on Cabell's single to right.

The Yankees broke open the game in the fourth inning with four runs. Marshall reached on an error. Ryan singled to right and Gray Kiger walked to load the bases. Ann Burns Morrison walked to force in the first run, then Jack stroked a single to left field, scoring two runs. Ann Burns scored when Danny's ground ball got through the left side.

In the fifth inning, Jason reached on an error with two outs, then Marshall walloped the first pitch 250 feet to left, sending the ball into the woods.
