Announcement
We had an up and down weekend at Lee this weekend. With a team as young and inexperienced as ours that happens. After looking at the breakdown of place winners at Lee I guess we finished about where we should have. We finished 24th overall out of 52 teams. Not to bad for us. I posted an article on Nola and I will place it in the handouts section of the website so everyone can have some perspective about this weekend.
The fact is only 2 freshmen placed in the entire tournament and Ben Willeford was one of them. 3 of our guys made it to the second day Ben, Marshall, and Corey. Two first year guys and a second year guy. The experience the underclassmen got was invaluable and will serve them well in the future. I am proud of our team as a whole because they conceded nothing and wrestled their opponents tougher than I have seen in past tournaments. That comes with maturity and this team is taking strides.
At times I am tougher on these guys than I should be. I am a fierce competitor and never like to lose. I apologize to those guys that I was especially tough on this weekend. You guys have worked exceptionally hard and I want you to enjoy this ride. I have to reset my mentality to the fact that we are a young team and are going to have some growing pains. Coach Patla seems to have a better handle on this and his wisdom is something I need at times.
I want to thank the parents for their support this weekend and over the course of the season. We need to get together to plan an awards banquet of our own. I know the school has one but we need one of our own. Our wrestling family has grown and we need to celebrate that.
