Varkatzas scores 3 goals to spark EFA
ELMIRA -- Alex Varkatzas helped the Elmira Free Academy boys soccer team get off to a strong start by scoring three goals and adding an assist in a 4-1 home victory over Binghamton Seton Catholic Central in a non-league game on Saturday.
Nick Lian added a goal and an assist for the Blue Devils, who had a 17-5 advantage in shots. Three of EFA's goals came in the second half.
"It's a good opening win," Academy head coach Derek Hamilton said. "Hopefully, we can carry that into the rest of the season."
EFA plays at Norwich on Monday.
