(MAY 21, 2020) The Intercity League Board of Directors met on Wednesday evening May 20, via Zoom Conference, for the purpose of exploring all possibilities for our 2020 season. It was our fourth board meeting since the start of the pandemic.
First and foremost, the Board is concerned with the safety of players, coaches, umpires, team officials, and fans as it relates to COVID-19.
It remains the unanimous decision of the Board to continue to research all possibilities to play an abbreviated version of our schedule beginning sometime in July with a double elimination tournament to follow in lieu of our traditional playoffs. This will only be done if we determine it is safe to do so and regulations and guidelines in place would allow.
While we are encouraged by the phased approach ordered by Governor Charlie Baker on Monday, it is now clear that no games will be permitted in Massachusetts until the start of Phase 3. Each of the first two phases will last for a minimum of three weeks.
If the first two phases go as planned and Phase 3 begins at the end of June, the next obstacle that we will face as a league will be what each of the ICL’s cities and towns will permit on the their fields this summer.
While we would all like to see some ICL baseball played this summer, the Board reiterates that the safety of everyone involved in the ICL is our primary concern.
Our next Board meeting is scheduled for May 27.
We will continue to keep everyone posted.
