Hobbled Chiefs Lose in Arlington, 4-2

Arlington, MA- Mike Griffin's bases loaded double in the fourth inning proved to be the game winner as the Trojans edged the Chiefs 4-3 in Arlington.

The Trojans scored of all their runs in the fourth when Chiefs' starter Jeff DeCarlo experienced a bout of wildness walking three, hitting a batter as well as allowing a single to Nick Napoli. Griffin's double came off reliever Jared Freni.

The Chiefs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth when Justin Crisafulli singled, Mike Andre moved him to third, and Tony Deshler blopped a RBI single over the drawn in infield.

The Chiefs loaded the bases in the fifth on a walk to Mike Barbati, a Peter Copa double, and Tim Demspey being hit by a pitch. Justin Crisafulli then hit a grounder, which appeared to go off his foot in the batter's box but was ruled as a fair ball, ending the inning.

Crisafulli brought the Chiefs back to 4-3 in the seventh when he launched a two out, two run homer to left scoring Copa ahead of him who had reached on an infield single. The Chiefs got the tying run to second with two outs when Andre drew a walk and Eric Rosenberg pinch ran for him. A Walsh wild pitch sent Rosenberg to second with Tony Deshler at the plate. Deshler worked the count full before Walsh struck him swinging to end the game.

Walsh (1-0) picked up the win for the Trojans working the final three innings.

DeCarlo (0-1) took the loss for the Chiefs. He worked 3.1 innings, allowing just two hits, but walked four and hit two batters along with recording a couple of strikeouts, Freni went the final 2.2 innings and only allowed Griffin's double, while striking out four.

Chiefs pitching issued a season high six walks and a couple of hit batsmen in a game that they out hit the Trojans 8-3.

The Chiefs are back in action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Reading to meet the Bulldogs at Morton Field (at rear of Reading High School) at 1:30 PM.
