Chiefs Get 8-1 Win Over Americans
Melrose, MA- Jared Freni and Matt DiCato combined for seventeen strikeouts and the Chiefs knocked out some timely hits and took advantage of some defensive lapses to knock off the Melrose Americans 8-1 at Morelli Field on Wednesday night.
Freni (1-0) was dominant throughout the game. The right-hander struck out 15 batters, allowed just one hit, one run, and walked a batter in 6.1 innings. DiCato struck out two in the seventh inning while allowing one hit.
Tony Serino went 2 for 4 with a couple of RBI’s to lead the Chiefs offense while Peter Copa, Mike Andre and Mike Barbati all had RBI hits. Tony Deshler added two singles and Juan Portes a long double for the Chiefs.
Mike Kalfopoulos (double) and James McConnville had the two American’s hits.-B.Tilman
