Z's Claims Regular Season Title As Play Off Seeds Come Into Focus

Posted by John Bodi on Aug 29 2006 at 05:00PM PDT in 2019
With the completion of Wednesday night's games, the 2006 play off seedings became a bit more clear. One more seed was determined and two clubs were put in must win situations to earn higher seeds. With a tight 9-8 victory over Short Cut, Z's Sports Shop claimed the Regular Season title. This is the fifth time in six years that Z's has won at least a share of the title. Last year, the Mustangs shared the title with them. The only year that Z's has not claimed a share of the title in this streak was 2003- the year the squad won their first play off title. The regular season title earns Z's the number one seed and a first round bye. The Mustangs 20-4 victory over Mario's Restaurant (in 5 innings) puts them in position to claim second place and the second bye. Drew Farms is tied with the Mustangs with two games in hand. Because the Mustangs own the tie breaker (a 4-0 advantage in the regular season series), Drews is forced to win both games next Tuesday. The schedule has them completing a suspended game against Short Cut and then closing the regular season against Z's. Mario's had already locked up the sixth seed and a date against the third place team in the first round. This series is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, September 6, at 6:30 PM. Drew Farms is not the only team going into Tuesday night's games with something to play for. Short Cut needs to win both of their games to pull into a tie with Healy Oil at 14-10. Such a tie would give Short Cut the fourth seed and home field advantage in their series against Healy by virtue of a 2-1 advantage in their regular season series. Healy Oil and Short Cut will open their playoff series on Wednesday, September 6, at 7:45 PM.
