The Spikes 2nd tourney appearance occurred in Murray KY., at the U.S.S.S.A. 5th Annual Murray Rotary Club Invitational April 7-9. Rain Friday pushed games to Saturday. The Spikes played very well, cruising to wins over the Sikeston MO. Bandits 11-4 and the Western KY. Bulldogs 10-2. The championship game on Sunday saw the Spikes once again facing the Bandits. In a pitchers dual lead by Tyler Ward Pitching 5 scoreless innings and only allowing 2 hits. The bats came alive for the Spikes in the bottom of the 5th inning scoring 3 runs on 3 hits. Nick Pate came out in the top of the 6th inning to close out the game only allowing 1 run. The Spikes 9U came out on top with a final score 3-1. The 2006 9-U Southern Indiana Spikes team started out their season in the B.P.A. D&B Rustbuster Classic Friday March 31 with a win over the Henderson Havoc 8-4. On Saturday they beat the Shakamak Lakers 12-4, and then lost to Bowling Green Bearcat Nationals 5-7. On Sunday with a record of 2-1 they again defeated the Shakamak Lakers. This once again pitted the Spikes against the Bearcat Nationals. The Spikes coming out of the losers bracket won 12-5, forcing a final game for the championship with the Bearcats. Due to severe weather the game was called in the bottom of the 6th inning , where the Spikes were trailing 8-6 and finished runner-up. What a great start to the "pitching" divison! Way to go Spikes!!!
