KING OF THE QUARTER: MAC MELTO

Posted by Jon Gordon at Jan 21, 2010 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

On Friday, January 22, 2010, an army of athletes filled the main entrance of Northside College Prep, the northside cafeteria, and hallways, waiting for departure to North Park University for the 5th Annual King of the Quarter. A special thanks to North Park University Head Track Coach Skip Stolley and staff, for hosting this great event.

Every member of the Northside Track & Field Team, regardless if they were thrower, distance runner, sprinter, jumper or hurdler, would race in one of seventy heats of the 400m Dash. Although the event was just a time trial, the crowd was so large at Alford Indoor Track at North Park University, that spectators had to stand in the balcony of the stadium to see the 400m time trial.

Despite the size of the crowd, you could hear a pin drop, when it was announced Sophomore Mac Melto or Freshman phenom Nathaniel Agharese would be in an upcoming heat.

Prior to Friday night, the fastest Northside time ever recorded at King of the Quarter was a 57.50. That changed dramatically on Friday night.

A year ago, Mac Melto ran a 60.22 as a Freshman at King of the Quarter. On Friday, January 22, 2010, Sophomore Mac Melto dropped six seconds from a year ago, and ran the fastest time ever by a Northside athlete at King of the Quarter with an outstanding time of 54.78 to win the 2010 King of the Quarter.

Freshman King of the Quarter: Nathaniel Agharese

Sophomore King of the Quarter: Mac Melto

Junior King of the Quarter: Dominic Sieminski

Senior King of the Quarter: Cooper Eben
