 On Thursday, May 19, 2011, the Northside Varsity Men Track & Field Team traveled to Niles West High School in Skokie, Illinois for the IHSA Sectional Championships!

 It was the Mustangs best meet of the season. The Mustangs broke multiple school records, and almost every athlete ran a season best or personal best time.

  Niles North won the IHSA Sectional Title. Northside picked up a victory over CPS rival Mather, and closed the gap against Lane Tech. Northside will have a final rematch against Lane Tech at the State Championships. Northside finished in 12th place in the Sectional with 12 points, and posted victories over 13. Maine East (7 points), 14. Notre Dame (4 points), 15. Mather (2 points), Von Steuben (2 points), 17. Maine West (1 point), 18. Glenbrook North (0 points), 19. St. Patrick (0 points), 20. Taft (0 points), 21. Foreman (0 points), 22. Lincoln Park (0 points), 23. Schurz (0 points), and 24. Clemente (0 points). Northside had a record of 12-11 on the day. 

 Northside has a season record of 130-42 going into the IHSA State Championships! It is the best record in the history of the Northside Track & Field program!

 In the Shot Put, Northside Senior Allen Tu threw an outstanding 33'01.25. Northside Senior Ottmar Flores was dismissed from the squad for failing to attend practices the week of the IHSA Sectional Championships. 

 In the Discus, Northside Senior Allen Tu threw an outstanding 84'10. Northside Freshman Henry Lothschutz dedication to practice and hard work paid off. Lothschutz improved by 7'0 with a personal best throw of 83'09. 

 In the High Jump, Northside Freshman Louis Koll jumped a personal best 5'7! Northside Freshman Lucien Fitzpatrick also jumped a personal best 5'7! Koll and Fitzpatrick were the top freshman in the Sectional!

 In the Long Jump, Northside Junior Josh Williams jumped an outstanding 19'06. Northside Freshman Alex Theidmann did not attend the meet. 

 In the Triple Jump, Northside Junior Josh Williams jumped an outstanding 38'08. Northside Freshman Louis Koll jumped an outstanding 32'00.

 As a Freshman, Josh Williams scored only one Varsity point. Three years later, Northside Junior Josh Williams led the Team in scoring with a record 167.25 Varsity points!!! Josh Williams ran Cross Country in the Fall to strengthen his legs, and rarely misses a Track practice. Josh Williams had an outstanding season. Josh Williams is one of the Mustangs most valuable athletes and is a future Team leader.

 In the 4x800m Relay, Northside Junior Dan Graham DROPPED 6 SECONDS off his best time with a personal best 2:04.08 800m split! On the first leg of the relay, Dan Graham ran the first 400m in 58 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 66 seconds for a personal best 2:04.08 800m split! Dan Graham has also run a 55.63 400m, and a 5:00.30 1600m run this season. Among other honors, Dan Graham won the St.Viator 1600m run, and was a member of the Mustangs Indoor City Champion 4x800m Relay. Graham is one of the future leaders of the Team, and could be one of the Mustangs top five Varsity runners on the Cross Country Team in the Fall.

 On the second leg of the relay, Northside Sophomore Patrick Brennan ran the first 400m in 62 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 74 seconds for an outstanding 800m split of 2:16.87.

 On the third leg of the relay, Northside Sophomore Calvin Gang ran the first 400m in 67 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 73 seconds for an outstanding 800m split of 2:20.37.

 On the final leg of the relay, Northside Freshman Robert Szmurlo ran the first 400m in 66 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 74 seconds for an outstanding 800m split of 2:20.03, to anchor the Mustangs past Niles Notre Dame (9:05.11) with an official time of 9:02.01.

 In the 4x100m Relay, the Northside Freshman ran outstanding in their first IHSA Sectional meet. Northside Freshman Joel Deleon ran a 11.67 100m split, and made a nice exchange to Freshman Jay Yu. Jay Yu ran a 14.76 100m split, and made a nice exchange to Freshman Walter Johnson-Geis. Walter Johnson-Geis ran a 13.47 100m split, and made a perfect exchange to Freshman Karl Heinz. Karl Heinz anchored the Mustangs past Maine West (53.61) with a 11.75 100m split, for an official time of 52.23.

 In the 3200m run, Northside Senior Erik Zuehlke edged Lane Tech phenom Jon Vara (10:51.12) with an outstanding time of 10:50.68. Erik Zuehlke will be running on the Northwestern University Cross Country Club with former Jones College Prep star Griffin Kelly in the Fall. Among other honors, Erik Zuehlke was a member of the Mustangs Indoor City Champion 4x800m Relay. Erik Zuehlke ran the first mile in 5:17, and then ran the final mile in 5:33 for an outstanding time of 10:50.68. Northside Freshman Cesar Rufino BROKE the 11 minutes barrier for the first time with a personal best time of 10:58.72! Rufino passed Taylor Kuehn on the 3200m run All Time list! Cesar Rufino ran the first mile in 5:24, and then ran the final mile in 5:34 for a personal best time of 10:58.72. 

 In the 110m hurdles, Northside Senior Hersh Perlmutter ran an outstanding time of 16.33. Hersh Perlmutter was the best hurdler in the history of Northside College Prep. Perlmutter holds four school records including the 110m Hurdles, 300m Hurdles, Low Hurdles Shuttle Relay, and High Hurdles Shuttle Relay. Hersh Perlmutter has twin brothers that will be attending Northside in the Fall.

 Northside Freshman Lucien Fitzpatrick was the Top Freshman in the IHSA Sectional meet with an outstanding 110m Hurdles time of 17.52.

 In the 100m Dash, Northside Sophomore Nathaniel Agharese ran an outstanding time of 11.45. Northside Freshman Karl Heinz ran a personal best time of 12.99.
