The athletes listed above have earned a Varsity letter by scoring a Varsity point in a Track meet.

 

Every point scored is vital to the success of the TEAM. The outcome of a Championship meet has come down to a single point on several occasions.

 In the Varsity 200m Dash, Northside Junior Gabe Jiminez-Ekman ran a PERSONAL BEST time of 24.64 to finish in fifth place overall. Gabe Jiminez-Ekman DROPPED 0.46 if a second (25.10) for a personal best time of 24.64. After medaling in the 400m Dash, Northside Sophomore Philip Wdowiak ran an outstanding 200m Dash time of 25.36.

 With the depth of quarter milers on the Northside Varsity, the mustangs were able to rest Junior Tom Frejowski (51.62), and Senior Simon Kafka (54.60) from the 4x400m Relay at Highland Park Twilight Invitational.

 In the Varsity 4x400m Relay, Northside Junior Malcolm Grba ran a 53.19 400m split on the first leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Sophomore Steven Kataba. Steven Kataba ran a 54.48 400m split on the second leg of the relay, and made a good exchange to Sophomore Matthew Gomez. Matthew Gomez ran a 55.51 400m split on the third leg of the relay, and made a perfect exchange to Sophomore Danny Rosen. Danny Rosen anchored the Mustangs to fifth place with a 54.19 400m split for an official time of 3:38.02. Malcolm Grba, Steven Kataba, Matthew Gomez, and Danny Rosen were awarded MEDALS for finishing in fifth place overall.

 On Saturday, April 19, 2014, the Northside Sophomore-Freshman Boys Track & Field Team traveled to Geneva, Illinois for the Mike VanDeveer Invitational.

 The meet featured West Chicago, Burlington Central, Dundee Crown, Northside College Prep, Larkin, and host Geneva High school.

 Individual points and relays were scored on the following points scale: 10-8-6-4-2-1. 

 The Northside Sophomore Boys finished in fifth place with 78.50 points.

 In the Sophomore Discus, Northside Sophomore Simon Lothschutz finished in eighth place with a 62'09. Northside Freshman Jacob Cosby finished in ninth place with a 58'05.

 In the Sophomore Shot Put, Northside Freshman Jacob Cosby finished in SECOND place with a personal best throw of 37'8. Jacob Cosby was awarded a RIBBON for finishing in second place overall. Northside Sophomore Simon Lothschutz finished in tenth place with a throw of 25'7.

 In the Sophomore High Jump, Northside Sophomore Keith Jones finished in a fifth place tie with an outstanding leap of 5'2. Keith Jones was awarded a RIBBON for finishing in fifth place overall.

 In the Sophomore Long Jump, Northside Sophomore Brandon Banas finished in THIRD place with a personal best jump of 18'0. Brandon Banas was awarded a RIBBON for finishing in third place overall. Northside Freshman Brian McManus jumped a personal best 16'01.

 In the Sophomore Triple Jump, Northside Freshman Jack Nolan finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with an outstanding jump of 27'02. Jack Nolan was awarded a RIBBON for finishing in sixth place overall.

 In the Sophomore 100m Dash Prelims, Northside Sophomore Keith Jones QUALIFIED for the finals with an outstanding time of 12.10. Northside Sophomore Andy Dominiquez ran a personal best time of 13.85

 In the Sophomore 110m Hurdles Prelims, Northside Freshman Jack Nolan QUALIFIED for the finals with an official time of 23.39.

 Northside Freshman Brian McManus traveled all the way from Florida to help his teammates on Saturday.

 In the Sophomore 3200m run, Northside Freshman Brian McManus DROPPED 34 seconds (11:52.90) for a PERSONAL BEST time of 11:18.90. Brian McManus ran the first mile in 5:31, and then ran the final mile in 5:47 to finish in fifth place with a personal best time of 11:18.90. Brian McManus ran 400m splits of 74, 81 (2:35 800m), 87 (4:02 1200m), 89 (5:31 1600m), 90 (7:01 2000m), 89 (8:30 2400m), 88 (9:58 2800m), and then ran the final 400m in a NEGATIVE split of 80 seconds for a personal best time of 11:18.90. Brian McManus was awarded a RIBBON for finishing in fifth place overall.

 In the Sophomore 200m Dash Prelims, Northside Freshman Brandon Banas QUALIFIED for the finals with an outstanding time of 25.55. Northside Freshman Josh Borgwardt ran an outstanding time of 27.03

 In the Sophomore 4x800m Relay, Northside Freshman Alex Ortiz ran the first 400m in 68 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 73.58 seconds for a 2:21.58 800m split, and then made a nice exchange to Freshman Kyle Friedler. Kyle Friedler ran the first 400m in 70 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 77.57 seconds for a 2:27.57 800m split, and then made a perfect exchange to Sophomore Sarrin Chethik. Sarrin Chethik  ran the first 400m in 71 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 76 seconds for a 2:27.00 800m split, and then made a nice exchange to Freshman Sergio Soto. Sergio Soto anchored the Mustangs to FOURTH place by running the first 400m in 66 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 78.28 seconds for a 2:24.28 800m split for an official time of 9:40.63. Alex Ortiz, Kyle Friedler, Sarrin Chethik, and Sergio Soto were awarded RIBBONS for finishing in fourth place overall.

 In the Sophomore 4x100m Relay, Northside WON it with an outstanding time of 48.69. Northside Sophomore Steven Kataba ran a 100m split of 11.60 on the first leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Sophomore Keith Jones. Keith Jones ran a 100m split of 11.80 on the second leg of the relay, and made a perfect exchange to Freshman Brandon Banas. Brandon Banas ran a 11.79 100m split on the third leg of the relay, and made a perfect exchange to Freshman Josh Borgwardt. Josh Borgwardt anchored the Mustangs to VICTORY with a 12.91 100m split for an official time of 48.69. Steven Kataba, Keith Jones, Brandon Banas, and Josh Borgwardt were awarded GOLD MEDALS for winning the 4x100m Relay!

 In the 110m Hurdles Finals, Northside Freshman Jack Nolan finished in fifth place with an outstanding time of 23.07. Jack Nolan was awarded a RIBBON for finishing in fifth place overall.

 In the 100m Dash Finals, Northside Sophomore Keith Jones finished in fourth place overall with a PERSONAL BEST time of 12.03. Keith Jones was awarded a RIBBON for finishing in fourth place overall.

 In the 800m run, Northside Sophomore Matthew Gomez WON it with an official time of 2:11.26. Matthew Gomez ran the first 400m in 61 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 70.26 seconds for an outstanding time of 2:11.26. Matthew Gomez was awarded a GOLD MEDAL for winning the 800m run. Northside Freshman Alex Ortiz ran the first 400m in 69 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 75.80 seconds for an official time of 2:24.80.

 In the 400m Dash, Northside Sophomore Steven Kataba finished in SECOND place with an PERSONAL BEST time of 55.09. Steven Kataba was awarded a RIBBON for finishing in second place overall. Northside Freshman Brandon Banas finished in fifth place with an outstanding time of 57.66. Brandon Banas was awarded a RIBBON for finishing in fifth place.

 In the 4x200m Relay, Northside Freshman Jacob Cosby ran the first leg of the relay in a 200m split of 26.43 seconds, and then made a good exchange to Sophomore Andy Dominiquez. Andy Dominiquez ran a 200m split of 27.82, and then made an exchange to Freshman Sergio Soto. Sergio Soto ran a 200m split of 27.88, and then made an exchange to Freshman Josh Borgwardt. Josh Borgwardt anchored the Mustangs to FOURTH place with a 27.34 200m split for an official time of 1:49.47. Jacob Cosby, Andy Dominiquez, Sergio Soto, and Josh Borgwardt were awarded RIBBONS for finishing in fourth place overall.

 In the 300m Hurdles, Northside Sophomore Keith Jones won his heat, and finished in fourth place overall with an official time of 52.12. Keith Jones was awarded a RIBBON for finishing in fourth place overall. Northside Freshman Jack Nolan finished in seventh place overall with an official time of 59.71.

 In the 1600m run, Northside Sophomore Sarrin Chethik finished in seventh place with an official time of 5:16.60. Sarrin Chethik ran 400m splits of 72, 81 (2:33 800m split), 83 (3:56 1200m), and then ran the final 400m in a NEGATIVE split of 80 seconds for an outstanding time of 5:16.60. Northside Freshman Kyle Friedler finished in eighth place with a personal best time of 5:17.53. Kyle Friedler ran 400m splits of 73, 81 seconds (2:34 800m split), 83 (3:57 1200m), and then ran the final 400m in a NEGATIVE split of 80 seconds for a personal best time of 5:17.53.

 In the 200m Dash, Northside Freshman Brandon Banas WON it with an official time of 25.51. Brandon Banas was awarded a GOLD MEDAL for winning the 200m dash!

 In the 4x400m Dash, Northside Sophomore Matthew Gomez ran the first leg of the relay in a 400m split of 55.82 seconds, and then made a nice exchange to Freshman Brian McManus. Brian McManus ran the second leg of the relay in a 400m split of 61.82 seconds, and made a good exchange to Freshman Josh Borgwardt. Josh Borgwardt ran a 400m split of 66.12 seconds, and then made an exchange to Freshman Jacob Cosby. Jacob Cosby anchored the Mustangs to fifth place with a 61.39 400m split for an official time of 4:05.47. Matthew Gomez, Brian McManus, Josh Borgwardt, and Jacob Cosby were awarded RIBBONS for finishing in fifth place overall.

 On Saturday, April 19, 2014, the morning commenced with a special television broadcast about the Indoor City Champions, Northside College Prep, airing on METV, on the Kenny McReynolds Sports Edition Television show.

 The Northside Varsity Men then traveled to Geneva, Illinois for the Mike VanDeveer Track and Field Invitational. Mike VanDeveer was the Head Track & Field Coach at Geneva High School for 34 years, from the 1970's through his retirement from education in 2005. The track meet is named in his honor and in recognition for his love of coaching high school athletes in the great sport of Track and Field.

 The meet featured Amos Alonzo Stagg High School, Burlington Central, Dundee Crown, Northside College Prep, West Chicago, Larkin, and host Geneva High School.

 Geneva High School was excellent hosts, and provided an outstanding Track and Field experience for the athletes, coaches, and spectators.

 Individual events and relays were scored on the following points scale: 10-8-6-4-2-1.

 Henry Lothschutz showed great Senior leadership by being committed to himself and the Team, and came back from Spring Break vacation for his teammates on Saturday.

 Freshman year, Henry Lothschutz had a Discus personal record of 75'6. Sophomore year, Henry Lothschutz had a Discus personal record of 95'5. Junior year, Henry Lothschutz had a Discus personal record of 103'09. Henry Lothschutz had an outstanding meet at the Mike VanDeveer Invitational.  

 In the Varsity Discus, Northside Senior Henry Lothschutz threw a PERSONAL BEST 107'10. 

 In the Varsity Shot Put, Northside Senior Henry Lothschutz had an outstanding throw of 33'04.

 In the Varsity Triple Jump, Northside Junior Porter Abbey finished in sixth place with an outstanding jump of 38'6.50. Porter Abbey was awarded a RIBBON for finishing in sixth place overall.

 In the Varsity 110m Hurdles Prelims, Northside Junior Porter Abbey QUALIFIED for the finals with an outstanding time of 18.16.

 In the Varsity 200m Dash Prelims, Northside Junior Tom Frejowski QUALIFIED for the finals with a PERSONAL BEST time of 24.25.

 Northside scratched the Varsity 4x800m Relay, and the Varsity 4x100m Relay due to absences of Senior Cesar Rufino and Junior Matt Osborne.

 Northside Junior Adrian Black traveled all the way from California on a flight that landed in Chicago at 1:31 am to help his Teammates in the 3200m run at the Mike VanDeveer Invitational.

 In the Varsity 3200m run, Northside Junior Adrian Black ran the first mile in 5:06, and then ran the final mile in 5:14 to finish in SECOND place with an outstanding time of 10:20.27. Adrian Black was awarded a MEDAL for finishing in second place overall. Adrian Black ran 400m splits of 74, 76 (2:30 800m), 78 (3:48 1200m), 78 (5:06 1600m), 80 (6:26 2000m), 80 (7:46), 79 (9:05), and then ran the final 400m in a NEGATIVE split of 75 seconds for an official time of 10:20.27.

 Northside Junior Kenny Dumez outkicked Amos Alonzo Stagg Junior Alex Bieniek (11:38.38, 9th) to finish in eighth place overall with a personal best time of 11:32.91. Kenny Dumez DROPPED 13 SECONDS (11:45) with a personal best time of 11:32.91. Kenny Dumez ran the first mile in 5:43, and then ran the second mile in 5:49 for an official time of 11:32.91. Kenny Dumez ran 400m splits of 80, 88 (2:48 800m split), 87 (4:15 1200m), 88 (5:43 1600m), 90 (7:13 2000m), 89 (8:42 2400m), 89 (10:11 2800m), and then ran the final 400m in a NEGATIVE split of 81 seconds for a PERSONAL BEST time of 11:32.91.

 In the Varsity 110m Hurdles Finals, Northside Junior Porter Abbey finished in seventh place with an official time of 18.29.

 In the Varsity 800m run, Northside Sophomore Danny Rosen ran the first 400m in 59 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 62.24 seconds to finish in second place with a PERSONAL BEST time of 2:01.24. Danny Rosen was awarded a MEDAL for finishing in second place overall. Northside Junior Malcolm Grba ran the first 400m in 59 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 62.39 seconds to finish in third place with an outstanding time of 2:01.39. Malcolm Grba was awarded a MEDAL for finishing in third place overall. Northside scored 14 points in the 800m run!

 Northside scratched the Varsity 4x200m Relay.

 In the Varsity 400m Dash, Northside Junior Tom Frejowski finished in SECOND place with a PERSONAL BEST time of 51.62.

 Northside scratched the Varsity 300m Hurdles.

 In the Varsity 1600m run, Northside Sophomore Danny Rosen WON it with an official time of 4:35.30. Danny Rosen ran the first 400m in 69 seconds, and then ran the next 400m in 71 seconds (2:20 800m), and then ran the next 400m in an EVEN split of 71 seconds (3:31 1200m), and then ran the final 400m in a NEGATIVE split of 64 to finish in first place with an outstanding time of 4:35.30. Danny Rosen was awarded a MEDAL for winning the 1600m run!

  The five minute barrier is the bench mark for elite high school milers. On Saturday, April 19, 2014, Northside Junior Max McCoy BROKE THE FIVE MINUTES BARRIER with a personal best time of 4:54.88!!! Max McCoy ran the first 400m in 70 seconds, and then ran the next 400m in 75 seconds (2:25 800m), and then ran the next 400m in a NEGATIVE split of 77 seconds (3:42 1200m), and then ran the final 400m in a NEGATIVE split of 72.88 seconds to finish in seventh place with a personal best time of 4:54.88.

 In the 200m Dash Finals, Northside Junior Tom Frejowski ran an official time of 24.87.

 In the 4x400m Relay, Northside Junior Malcolm Grba ran a 400m split of 53.60 on the first leg of the relay, and made a perfect exchange to Danny Rosen. Sophomore Danny Rosen ran a 400m split of 56.99 on the second leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Porter Abbey. Junior Porter Abbey ran a 400m split of 56.89 on the third leg of the relay, and then made a good exchange to Junior Max McCoy. Max McCoy anchored the Mustangs to fifth place with a 59.03 400m split for an official time of 3:47.14. Malcolm Grba, Danny Rosen, Porter Abbey, and Max McCoy were awarded RIBBONS for finishing in fifth place overall.
