Tom Frejowski finishes SECOND in 400m Dash with a 51.62!!! Danny Rosen WINS 1600m! Max McCoy runs 4:54.88 1600m! Rosen & Grba score 14 points in 800m!

 On Saturday, April 19, 2014, the morning commenced with a special television broadcast about the Indoor City Champions, Northside College Prep, airing on METV, on the Kenny McReynolds Sports Edition Television show.

 The Northside Varsity Men then traveled to Geneva, Illinois for the Mike VanDeveer Track and Field Invitational. Mike VanDeveer was the Head Track & Field Coach at Geneva High School for 34 years, from the 1970's through his retirement from education in 2005. The track meet is named in his honor and in recognition for his love of coaching high school athletes in the great sport of Track and Field.

 The meet featured Amos Alonzo Stagg High School, Burlington Central, Dundee Crown, Northside College Prep, West Chicago, Larkin, and host Geneva High School.

 Geneva High School was excellent hosts, and provided an outstanding Track and Field experience for the athletes, coaches, and spectators.

 Individual events and relays were scored on the following points scale: 10-8-6-4-2-1.

 Henry Lothschutz showed great Senior leadership by being committed to himself and the Team, and came back from Spring Break vacation for his teammates on Saturday.

 Freshman year, Henry Lothschutz had a Discus personal record of 75'6. Sophomore year, Henry Lothschutz had a Discus personal record of 95'5. Junior year, Henry Lothschutz had a Discus personal record of 103'09. Henry Lothschutz had an outstanding meet at the Mike VanDeveer Invitational.  

 In the Varsity Discus, Northside Senior Henry Lothschutz threw a PERSONAL BEST 107'10. 

 In the Varsity Shot Put, Northside Senior Henry Lothschutz had an outstanding throw of 33'04.

 In the Varsity Triple Jump, Northside Junior Porter Abbey finished in sixth place with an outstanding jump of 38'6.50. Porter Abbey was awarded a RIBBON for finishing in sixth place overall.

 In the Varsity 110m Hurdles Prelims, Northside Junior Porter Abbey QUALIFIED for the finals with an outstanding time of 18.16.

 In the Varsity 200m Dash Prelims, Northside Junior Tom Frejowski QUALIFIED for the finals with a PERSONAL BEST time of 24.25.

 Northside scratched the Varsity 4x800m Relay, and the Varsity 4x100m Relay due to absences of Senior Cesar Rufino and Junior Matt Osborne.

 Northside Junior Adrian Black traveled all the way from California on a flight that landed in Chicago at 1:31 am to help his Teammates in the 3200m run at the Mike VanDeveer Invitational.

 In the Varsity 3200m run, Northside Junior Adrian Black ran the first mile in 5:06, and then ran the final mile in 5:14 to finish in SECOND place with an outstanding time of 10:20.27. Adrian Black was awarded a MEDAL for finishing in second place overall. Adrian Black ran 400m splits of 74, 76 (2:30 800m), 78 (3:48 1200m), 78 (5:06 1600m), 80 (6:26 2000m), 80 (7:46), 79 (9:05), and then ran the final 400m in a NEGATIVE split of 75 seconds for an official time of 10:20.27.

 Northside Junior Kenny Dumez outkicked Amos Alonzo Stagg Junior Alex Bieniek (11:38.38, 9th) to finish in eighth place overall with a personal best time of 11:32.91. Kenny Dumez DROPPED 13 SECONDS (11:45) with a personal best time of 11:32.91. Kenny Dumez ran the first mile in 5:43, and then ran the second mile in 5:49 for an official time of 11:32.91. Kenny Dumez ran 400m splits of 80, 88 (2:48 800m split), 87 (4:15 1200m), 88 (5:43 1600m), 90 (7:13 2000m), 89 (8:42 2400m), 89 (10:11 2800m), and then ran the final 400m in a NEGATIVE split of 81 seconds for a PERSONAL BEST time of 11:32.91.

 In the Varsity 110m Hurdles Finals, Northside Junior Porter Abbey finished in seventh place with an official time of 18.29.

 In the Varsity 800m run, Northside Sophomore Danny Rosen ran the first 400m in 59 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 62.24 seconds to finish in second place with a PERSONAL BEST time of 2:01.24. Danny Rosen was awarded a MEDAL for finishing in second place overall. Northside Junior Malcolm Grba ran the first 400m in 59 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 62.39 seconds to finish in third place with an outstanding time of 2:01.39. Malcolm Grba was awarded a MEDAL for finishing in third place overall. Northside scored 14 points in the 800m run!

 Northside scratched the Varsity 4x200m Relay.

 In the Varsity 400m Dash, Northside Junior Tom Frejowski finished in SECOND place with a PERSONAL BEST time of 51.62.

 Northside scratched the Varsity 300m Hurdles.

 In the Varsity 1600m run, Northside Sophomore Danny Rosen WON it with an official time of 4:35.30. Danny Rosen ran the first 400m in 69 seconds, and then ran the next 400m in 71 seconds (2:20 800m), and then ran the next 400m in an EVEN split of 71 seconds (3:31 1200m), and then ran the final 400m in a NEGATIVE split of 64 to finish in first place with an outstanding time of 4:35.30. Danny Rosen was awarded a MEDAL for winning the 1600m run!

  The five minute barrier is the bench mark for elite high school milers. On Saturday, April 19, 2014, Northside Junior Max McCoy BROKE THE FIVE MINUTES BARRIER with a personal best time of 4:54.88!!! Max McCoy ran the first 400m in 70 seconds, and then ran the next 400m in 75 seconds (2:25 800m), and then ran the next 400m in a NEGATIVE split of 77 seconds (3:42 1200m), and then ran the final 400m in a NEGATIVE split of 72.88 seconds to finish in seventh place with a personal best time of 4:54.88.

 In the 200m Dash Finals, Northside Junior Tom Frejowski ran an official time of 24.87.

 In the 4x400m Relay, Northside Junior Malcolm Grba ran a 400m split of 53.60 on the first leg of the relay, and made a perfect exchange to Danny Rosen. Sophomore Danny Rosen ran a 400m split of 56.99 on the second leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Porter Abbey. Junior Porter Abbey ran a 400m split of 56.89 on the third leg of the relay, and then made a good exchange to Junior Max McCoy. Max McCoy anchored the Mustangs to fifth place with a 59.03 400m split for an official time of 3:47.14. Malcolm Grba, Danny Rosen, Porter Abbey, and Max McCoy were awarded RIBBONS for finishing in fifth place overall.
