Eric Nelson breaks the School Record in the Discus with a throw of 129'0!!!
On Tuesday, May 26, 2009, Northside College Prep held the Mustangs Throwers Summit for athletes who did not get the opportunity to throw at IHSA Sectionals. Northside Senior Eric Nelson was unable to throw the Discus at the IHSA Sectional Championship because the High Jump competition was taking place during the Discus competition.
The Mustangs Throwers Summit took place at the Northside College Prep Discus cage. The Mustangs discus gage is located in the left corner behind O'Connor Field.
In the Discus, on his final throw, Eric Nelson BROKE THE SCHOOL RECORD with a personal best throw of 129'0!
At the conclusion of the competition, Eric Nelson was asked to autograph his shoes, and they were then permantently placed under his photo in the Northside Track & Field Trophy case.
The Northside Throwers also had the opportunity to throw the Javelin, under the guidance of Northside Thrower's Coach Kate Cook. The Javelin could become an IHSA event within the next couple of years.
