Eric Nelson breaks School Record with 6'6 High Jump! 116'1 Discus! Charlie Mesimore WINS 3200m! Kittaka 4:45 Mile! Cuitlahuac breaks 800m record!

   On Monday, April 21, 2008, Northside Varsity Men and Women and Sophomore-Freshman Boys and Girls traveled to Deerfield, Illinois for a dual meet against Deerfield High School. Invidividual events were scored 5-3-1, and Relays were scored 5-0. In May, Deerfield will be the site of the 2008 IHSA Sectional Championships for the Varsity Men.

   In the Varsity Men Shot Put, Eric Nelson won it with an outstanding throw of 42'8.5. John Ko threw the Shot Put an outstanding 35'1. Senior Brandon Quach threw the Shot Put 32'4.5. Junior Spencer Rosenfeld threw the Shot Put 31'9. Senior Preston Buehrer threw the Shot Put an outstanding 31'2. Sophomore Andrew Czyszczon threw the Shot Put a personal best 31'1.5.

   In the Varsity Women Shot Put, Senior Alyssa Anderson threw the Shot Put 30'5.5. Senior Kaitlin Renkosiak threw the Shot Put 24'4.5. Freshman Caleigh Renkosiak threw the shot put 22'1.5.

   In the Varsity Men Discus, Eric Nelson finished in third place with a personal best throw of 116'1. Brandon Quach finished in fourth place with a personal best throw of 104'6. John Ko finished in sixth place with a throw of 97'8. Senior Preston Buehrer threw the Discus 81'0. Junior Spencer Rosenfeld threw the Discus 74'1. Sophomore Andrew Czyszczon threw the Discus 72'0.

  In the Varsity Women Discus, Senior Kelly Varney threw the Discus 76'6.5. Senior Alyssa Anderson threw the Discus 71'8. Senior Kaitlin Renkosiak threw the Discus 71'1.5. Freshman Caeleigh Renkosiak threw the Discus 63'5. Freshman Ashley Kossakowski threw the Discus 61'1. Freshman Lyndsey Shallberg threw the Discus 51'10.5.

  In the High Jump, Eric Nelson BROKE THE SCHOOL RECORD with a personal best jump of 6'6. After the field was unable to clear 5'2, Eric Nelson jumped 5'2, and then the bar was raised to 6'0. Eric Nelson cleared 6'0, then the cross bar was raised to 6'3. A large crowd gathered, and surrounded the High Jump pit for the remainder of the High Jump competition. Eric Nelson then cleared 6'3!, and the cross bar was then raised to 6'5. Eric Nelson then cleared 6'5! and the crowd was in awe. The cross bar was then raised to 6'6, and Eric Nelson broke the school record and jumped a personal best 6'6!! The cross bar was then raised to 6'7, and Eric Nelson made three outstanding attempts at 6'7, and received congratulations from Northside and Deerfield athletes on one of the greatest high jump performances anyone has ever seen.

  In the Varsity Men 4x800m Relay, Preston Buehrer ran a season best 2:25 800m split on the first leg of the Relay. Luis Gaytan ran a 2:32 800m split on the second leg of the Relay. Sophomore Andrew Czyszczon ran a 2:30 800m split on the third leg of the Relay. Senior Brad Eben ran a 2:34 800m split on the anchor leg of the relay for a total time of 10:02 to WIN the 4x800m Relay.

 In the Varsity Women 4x800m Relay, Freshman Karlyn Gehring ran a 2:58 800m split on the first leg of the Relay. Junior Jennifer Friedmann ran a personal best 2:53 800m split on the second leg of the Relay. Freshman Su Yang ran a 2:59 800m split on the third leg of the Relay. Sophomore Karen Li anchored the Mustangs with a personal best 2:55 800m split for a total time of 11:45.93 to place second overall.

 In the Varsity Men 4x100m Relay, Senior Santino Merino ran a 11.89 100m split on the first leg of the Relay. Freshman Hersch Perlmutter ran a 13.25 100m split on the second leg of the Relay. Senior Erik Flores ran a 12.19 100m split on the third leg of the Relay. Sophomore Neal Capapas anchored the Mustangs to second place with a 12.41 100m split for a total time of 49.74.

 In the Varsity Women 4x100m Relay, Senior Alyssa Anderson ran a 15.13 100m split on the first leg of the Relay. Senior Kaitlin Renkosiak ran a 14.14 100m split on the second leg of the Relay. Junior Gayatri Satam ran a 14.35 100m split on the third leg of the Relay. Junior Lynette Ardies ran a 16.09 100m split to anchor the Mustangs to second place with a total time of 59.21.

 In the Sophomore-Freshman Girls 4x100m Relay, Nina Coomes, Robin Doherty, Lyndsey Shallberg, and Ashley Kossakowski combined for a 61.71 to place second overall.

 In the 3200m Run, Freshman Charlie Mesimore won it with a personal best time of 10:40 (5:12/5:28). Sophomore Cooper Eben finished in second place with an outstanding time of 10:43 (5:13/5:30). Freshman Erik Zuehlke finished in fourth place with a time of 12:44. Sophomore James Rey finished in fifth place with a time of 12:49. Junior Coleman Gailloreto finished in sixth place with a time of 13:40.

  In the Varsity Men 110m Hurdles, Freshman Hersch Perlmutter ran an outstanding time of 19.37 to place second overall.

  In the Varsity Women 100m Hurdles, Senior Kelly Varney placed third overall with an outstanding time of 18.51. Freshman Robin Doherty placed fifth overall with a 20.45.

  In the Varsity Men 100m Dash, Sophomore Neal Capapas ran a 12.33. Senior Erik Flores ran a 12.60. Sophomore Peter Wilk ran a 13.60. Freshman Naim Uddin ran a 15.06.

  In the Varsity Women 100m Dash, Maria Zdunek ran 14.70. Freshman Caeleigh Renkosiak ran a 16.58.

  In the Varsity Men 800m run, Sophomore Cuitlahuac Pineda Youniss BROKE THE SCHOOL RECORD with a 2:07.73 (62/65). Junior Simon Vecchioni ran a personal best 2:12.95 (63/69). Sophomore Cooper Eben ran an outstanding time of 2:18.36 (66/72).

  In the Varsity Women 800m run, Freshman Su Yang ran an oustanding time of 2:53 (84/89). Freshman Karlyn Gehrin ran an outstanding time of 2:55 (84/91). Junior Jennifer Friedmann ran an outstanding time of 2:57 (86/91).

  In the Varsity Men 4x200m Relay, Sophomore Peter Wilk ran a 26.46 200m split on the first leg of the Relay. Freshman Hersch Perlmutter ran a 27.25 200m split on the second leg of the Relay. Senior Neal Capapas ran a 25.86 200m split on the third leg of the Relay. Senior Erik Flores anchored the Mustangs to second place with a 25.86 200m split on the fourth leg of the Relay for a total time of 1:45.42.

  In the Varisy Women 4x200m Relay, Anna Parks ran a 29.20 200m split on the first leg of the Relay. Junior Maria Torres ran a 28.76 200m split on the second leg of the relay. Senior Christina Prucnal ran a 31.03 200m split on the third leg of the relay. Senior Kelly Varney anchored the Mustangs to second place with a 28.21 200m split, for a total time of 1:57.20.

 In the Sophomore-Freshman Girls 4x200m Relay, Freshman Nina Coomes, Robin Doherty, Lyndsey Shallberg, and Ashely Kossakowski combined for a 2:14 to place second overall.

  In the Varsity Men 400m run, Senior Santino Merino ran an outstanding time of 59.92. Sophomore Andrew Czyszczon ran an outstanding time of 61.00. Senior Irfan Hussain ran a personal best time of 63.32. Senior Brad Eben ran a time of 68.00.

  In the Varsity Women 400m run, Junior Adaora Achufusi won it with a time of 64.60.

  In the Varsity Men 300m Hurdles, Freshman Hersch Perlmutter ran a time of 49.40. Freshman Luis Gaytan ran a time of 61.00.

  In the Varsity Women 300m Hurdles, Sophomore Karen Li ran a time of 56.00. Junior Maria Zdunek ran a time of 59.20. Junior Lynetter Ardies ran a time of 63.00.

  In the Varsity Men Mile, Junior Jonathan Kittaka won it with a personal best time of 4:45. Kittaka went through 400m in 66 seconds, and the 800m in 2:17, and the 1200m in 3:31, and ran the final 400m in 74 seconds for a 4:45 Mile! Freshman Wesley Laytham finished in second place with a 4:52! Laytham went through the first 400m in 67 seconds, and the 800m in 2:20, and the 1200m in 3:39, and the final 400m in 73 seconds for a 4:52 Mile. Freshman Charlie Mesimore finished in third place with a 4:53! Mesimore went through the first 400m in 68 seconds, and the 800m in 2:24, and the 1200m in 3:40, and the final 400m in 73 seconds for a 4:53 Mile.

  In the Varsity Women Mile, Junior Anna Parks ran a personal best 5:49 Mile.

  In the Varsity Men 4x400m Relay, Sophomore Cuitlahuac Pineda Youniss ran a 57.43 400m on the first leg of the Relay. Sophomore Neal Capapas ran a 58.34 400m split on the second leg of the Relay. Junior Simon Vecchioni ran a 57.78 400m split on the third leg of the relay. Senior Erik Flores anchored the Mustangs to first place with a 59.18 400m split for a total time of 3:52.73.

  The Northside Varsity Women 4x400m Relay was scratched due to an injury to Kelly Varney.
