Posted by Jon Gordon on Jan 23 2014 at 04:00PM PST

Shot put competitions have been held at the modern Summer Olympic Games since their inception in 1896.

In 2013, Northside Ari Perlmutter qualified as a Sophomore for the IHSA State Track & Field Championships in Shot Put with a personal best throw of 41'1.50. Northside Junior Ari Perlmutter also holds the King of the Shot Put Record with a throw of 38'7 at the January 2013 King of the Shot Put Competition.

The Northside SCHOOL RECORD for Shot Put is currently 43'5 and is held by Alumni legend Eric Nelson (2008 CPS City Championships). At the conclusion of Basketball season, Junior Ari Perlmutter could potentially break the school record this season.

On Friday, January 24, 2014, 31 members of the Northside Track & Field Team traveled to the North Park University Indoor Track & Field Stadium to compete in King of the Shot Put.

Every available member of the Northside Track & Field Team, regardless if they were a Pole Vaulter, Distance runner, Sprinter, Jumper, or  Hurdler competed with the throwers in one flight of the Shot Put.
