Neal Capapas 12.00 100m! Santino Merino breaks 200m School record with 23.60! Eric Nelson anchors 4x400m Relay to new School Record!!

 On Wednesday, April 16, 2008, the Northside College Prep Varsity and Sophomore-Freshman Teams traveled to Winnetka, Illinois to take on Maine East and host New Trier at the New Trier Track & Field Classic. Individual Events were scored 5-3-2-1. Relays were scored 5-3. Watermelons were awarded for all school records. New Trier Head Boys Coach Jim Casey and staff hosted an outstanding meet. All Teams were allowed unlimited entries in all events. New Trier won the Meet. Northside finished second with 35 points. Maine East finished third with 23 points. 

  In the Varsity Shot Put, Junior Eric Nelson placed second overall with an outstanding throw of 42'0. Junior John Ko placed 9th overall with a throw of 33'0. Senior Brandon Quach placed 10th overall with a throw of 31'1. Senior Preston Buehrer placed 12th overall with a throw of 30'2.

  In the Sophomore-Freshman Shot Put, Freshman Jordan Jackson made an outstanding throw of 31'1. Sophomore Andrew Czyszczon threw 29'4.

  In the Varsity Discus, Junior John Ko placed third overall with an outstanding throw of 98'6. Senior Brandon Quach placed fourth overall with a personal best throw of 96'2. Senior Alex Aparicio placed sixth overall with a personal best throw of 82'7. Senior Preston Buehrer placed seventh overall with an outstanding throw of 79'8. Junior Gus Hernandez placed 11th overall with a personal best throw of 75'9. Junior Brandon Cooper threw a personal best throw of 60'8.

 In the Sophomore-Freshman Discus, Sophomore Andrew Czyszczon threw 63'7. Freshman Jordan Jackson threw a personal best 57'10.

 In the Pole Vault, Northside Senior Vinh Nguyen tied for fifth place with New Trier's Mandell with a vault of 7'6.

 In the High Jump, Northside Captain Eric Nelson won it with a jump of 6'3, which broke the stadium record. After clearing 6'3, Eric Nelson had the bar raised to 6'5, and made three outstanding attempts. New Trier School record holder, Jeremy Wynn jumped a personal best 6'2 to place second overall. Maine East's Avery Roche jumped 6'0 to place third overall. Maine East's Demarco Wilson jumped 5'8 to place fourth overall. Maine East's Adun Abiala jumped 5'2 to place fifth overall. Northside Junior Albert Lin jumped 5'0 to place sixth overall.

  In the Varsity Long Jump, Northside Junior Albert Lin placed fourth overall with an outstanding jump of 17'9.5. Northside Junior Martin Melto placed fifth overall with an outstanding jump of 17'6.

 In the Sophomore-Freshman Long Jump, Northside Freshman Roldan Alegre jumped a personal best 15'9 to place second overall. Sophomore Neibu Tadele jumped 11'4.

 In the Varsity Triple Jump, Northside Junior Eric Nelson jumped 40'0 to place second overall. Junior Albert Lin jumped 36'7.5. Junior Martin Melto jumped 35'1.

 In the Sophomore-Freshman Triple Jump, Freshman Roldan Alegre jumped 34'5 to place third overall. Sophomore Neibu Tadele scratched on all three attempts.

 In the Varsity 4x800m Relay, New Trier won it with a time of 8:57. Northside (9:04) edged Maine East (9:05) to place second overall. Northside Junior Brandon Cooper ran a 2:11 800m split on the first leg of the relay. Junior Brian Chhun ran a 2:21 800m split on the second leg of the relay. Junior Simon Vecchioni ran a 2:16 800m split on the third leg of the relay. Freshman Wesley Laythan anchored the Mustangs to second place with a 2:16 800m split for a total time of 9:04.

 In the Sophomore-Freshman 4x800m Relay, New Trier won it with a time of 10:03. Northside placed second overall with a time of 10:19. Freshman Luis Gaytan ran a time of 2:30 on the first leg of the relay. Freshman Erik Zuehlke ran a time of 2:46 on the second leg of the relay. Sophomore James Rey ran a time of 2:40 on the third leg of relay. Freshman Miles Austrevich anchored the Mustangs to second place with a 2:23 800m split for a total time of 10:19.

 In the Varsity 4x100m Relay, Junior Martin Melto ran a 11.83 100m split on the first leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Captain Santino Merino. Senior Santino Merino ran a 11.91 100m split on the second leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Senior Erik Flores. Erik Flores ran a 12.40 100m split on the third leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Senior Preston Buehrer. Preston Buehrer anchored the Mustangs to third place with a 12.54 100m split for a NEW SCHOOL RECORD of 48.68!

 In the Sophomore-Freshman 4x100m Relay, Sophomore Neal Capapas ran a 11.99 100m split on the first leg of the relay. Sophomore Brandon Teng ran a 11.63 100m split on the second leg of the relay. Sophomore Peter Wilk had trouble receiving the hand-off, and ran a 13.78 100m split on the third leg of the relay. Freshman Hersch Perlmutter anchored the Mustangs to third place with a 13.03 100m split for a total time of 50.43.

 In the Varsity 3200m run, Junior Jonathan Kittaka ran the first mile in 5:27, and the second mile in 5:20.8, to win it with an outstanding time of 10:47.8. Freshman Charlie Mesimore ran the first mile in 5:29, and the second mile in 5:31 for a personal best time of 11:00 to place second overall. Sophomore Cooper Eben ran the first mile in 5:30, and the second mile in 5:36 for a time of 11:06 to place third overall.

 In the 110m Hurdles, Junior Albert Lin placed fifth overall with a personal best time of 18.80. Freshman Hersch Perlmutter placed sixth overall with a time of 19.3. Junior Nathan Michaelson ran a personal best time of 20.52. Sophomore Andrew Czyszczon ran an outstanding time of 21.10. Freshman Roldan Alegre ran a personal best time of 21.71.

 In the Varsity 100m Dash, Senior Erik Flores ran a time of 12.40.

 In ths Sophomore-Freshman 100m Dash, Sophomore Neal Capapas WON it and BROKE THE SCHOOL RECORD with a personal best time of 12.00. The record was previously held by Geoff Edwards (12.02). Sophomore Peter Wilk ran a time of 13.00. Sophomore Sam Olver ran a time of 13.11.

 In the Varsity 800m run, Sophomore Cuitlahuac Pineda Youniss ran the first 400m in 64 seconds, and the next 400m in 66 seconds to place third overall with an outstanding time of 2:10. Senior Brad Eben ran a time of 2:34 (73/81). Senior Preston Buehrer ran a season best time of 2:35 (73/82).  Junior Coleman Gailloreto ran a time of 2:59 (83/96).

 In the Sophomore-Freshman 800m run, Freshman Will Riley dropped 15 seconds off his PR, with a personal best time of 2:40.

 In the Varsity 4x200m Relay, Junior Martin Melto ran a 26.52 200m split on the first leg of the Relay. Senior Santino Merino ran a 25.44 200m split on the second leg of the Relay. Junior Simon Vecchioni ran a 26.25 200m split on third leg of the Relay. Senior Erik Flores ran a 24.95 200m split to anchor the Mustangs to second place overall, with a total time of 1:43.16.

 In the Sophomore-Freshman 4x200m Relay, Sophomore Neal Capapas ran a 24.17 200m split on the first leg of the Relay. Sophomore Brandon Teng ran a 27.83 200m split on the second leg of the Relay. Sophomore Peter Wilk ran a 28.21 200m split on the third leg of the Relay. Freshman Hersch Perlmutt ran a 29.16 200m split to anchor the Mustanghs to third place overall, with a total time of 1:49.37.

 In the 400m Run, Northside Senior Irfan Hussain ran an outstanding time of 63.10. Sophomore Sam Olver ran a time of 67.50. Sophomore Neibu Tadele ran a time of 68.70.

 In the Varsity 300m Hurdles, Northside Senior Santino Merino ran a time of 50.50.

 In the Sophomore-Freshman 300m Hurdles, Freshman Hersch Perlmutter placed third overall with a time of 52.10. Sophomore Andrew Czyszczon placed fourth overall with a time of 53.70. Freshman Roldan Alegre placed sixth overall with a time of 54.97.

 In the Mile, Junior Jonathan Kittaka ran a time of 5:00 to place fourth overall. Freshman Charlie Mesimore ran a time of 5:04 to place fifth overall. Sophomore Cooper Eben ran a time of 5:10. Freshman Wesley Laytham ran a time of 5:16. Senior Brad Eben ran a time of 5:36. Freshman Luis Gaytan ran a time of 5:39. Freshman Erik Zuehlke ran a time of 5:40. Sophomore James Rey ran a time of 5:54.

 In the 200m, Northside Senior Santino Merino BROKE THE SCHOOL RECORD with an official time of 23.60 to place fourth overall. Senior Erik Flores ran an outstanding time of 24.97.

 In the 4x400m Relay, Junior Brandon Cooper ran a 55.92 400m split on the first leg of the relay to put the Mustangs in the lead. Junior Brian Chhun maintained the lead through the first 150 meters, but forgot to cut into lane one, and ran his entire leg of the relay from lane three, and despite running a longer distance, still ran a 59.13 400m split before a difficult exchange with Junior Simon Vecchioni. Brian Chhun inadvertently stepped on the back of Simon Vecchioni shoe during the exchange, and Simon Vecchioni's shoe came off, and Junior Simon Vecchioni ran a 59.68 400m split with only one shoe on and made a nice exchange to Junior Eric Nelson. Captain Eric Nelson quickly passed Maine East, and almost caught New Trier as well, and ran a 54.85 400m split for a NEW SCHOOL RECORD of 3:49.58!. The Mustangs smashed the previous school record (3:53.48) by over 5 seconds!
