On Tuesday, March 23, 2010, the Northside College Prep Sophomore-Freshman Boys traveled to Bensenville, Illinois to take on Buffalo Grove, Fenton, Lake Park, Niles North, St.Joseph, West Chicago, and Brooks College Prep in the 32nd Annual Emil Ostberg Sophomore-Freshman Indoor Championships. It is the most competitive Sophomore-Freshman Indoor Meet in Illinois.

The Emil Ostberg Sophomore-Freshman Indoor Championships is named after three former Fenton athletes, who earned All-American honors during their collegiate careers. Jim Nichols (All-American in the 800m run), Emil Ostberg (All-American in the 200m Dash), Art Seimers (All-American in the Mile, and brother of Fenton legend Chris Seimers). To earn All-American honors, a collegiate athlete has to place in the Top 8 in their event at the NCAA National Track & Field Championships. At the Emil Ostberg Championships, Plaques were awarded to the Top 5 individual finishers and the Top 4 Relays in every event. Individual Events and Relays were scored 10-8-6-4-2-1.

Prior to Tuesday, Northside Junior Charlie Mesimore was the only Northside athlete in school history to win an individual event at the Ostberg Sophomore-Freshman Championships (3200m run Champion, 2008 and 2009, Art Seimers Mile Champion, 2009).

In 2009, Northside Sophomore Josh Williams earned a plaque in the Triple Jump by placing fifth overall, which is an incredible accomplishment for a Freshman Athlete. As a Freshman, Josh Williams did not score a point in the Long jump at the Ostberg Sophomore-Freshman Championships, and was not even the Mustangs top freshman in the Long Jump, despite an outstanding jump of 15'9 at the Ostberg Championships his freshman year.

In 2010, through pure hard work, Josh Williams has continued to improve every meet, and has become one of the best jumpers on the Northside Varsity Team.

On Tuesday, March 23, 2010, Josh Williams received his first reward of the season, and made history by becoming the Northside Mustangs first Emil Ostberg Long Jump Champion with a PERSONAL BEST jump of 18'7.75!!! On his first jump, Josh Williams jumped 18'4. On his second jump, Josh Williams jumped 18'1. On his third jump, Josh Williams jumped 18'7.75. On his fourth jump, Josh Williams made a legendary jump, but hit the foul line with his toe. As a courtesty, Fenton High School measured it at 20'0. Although the jump did not count because of the foul, it was still an incredible jump. In one year, Josh Williams went from not even scoring a point in the Long Jump at the Ostberg Championships to 2010 Emil Ostberg Long Jump Champion!!! Josh Williams is one of the most improved athletes on the Team, and has the potential to break the Mustangs school record in the Long Jump as a Sophomore! Northside Sophomore Derek Lin, also made history, by earning four Plaques in the meet! Derek Lin earned his first plaque of the day in the Long Jump by placing 5th overall with a PERSONAL BEST jump of 17'6.75! On his first jump, Derek Lin jumped 17'6.50. On his second jump, Derek Lin jumped 17'6.65. On his third jump, Derek Lin jumped 17'3. On his fourth jump, Derek Lin jumped 16'8.
