CHICAGO MARIST TRACK AND FIELD

On Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at Buffalo Grove High School, all of the high school coaches gathered for a seed meeting to determine the final heats for the 2007 IHSA Sectional Championships. Northside Head Coach Jon Gordon, Glenbrook South Head Coach Fred Kocian, St. Viator Head Coach Brad Kaupinski, Hersey Head Coach Jim Miks, and the Niles North Head Coach were named to the games comittee to resolve all disputes that arise at the meet. The starting height for Pole Vault was announced as 7'3, and the starting height for High Jump was announced as 4'4. The Northside 4x400m Relay has become the biggest story going into IHSA Sectionals. A couple of weeks ago, they were ranked 16th in Chicago with a seed time of 4:35. They were an unknown, and nobody had them on their rader for the IHSA Sectional Championships. At the City Championship qualifying meet, the Mustangs 4x400m Relay moved up to fifth in Chicago with an outstanding time of 4:23. Three days later at the City Championships, the Mustangs dropped another seven seconds with the SAME athletes, and upset Lane Tech, to place second in Chicago with a school record time of 4:16.22. The Mustangs were the first team in the history of the CPS Championships to go from 16th to Second place in a span of two weeks. On Wednesday, May 9, 2007, it was announced that the Mustangs will be in the FAST HEAT at the IHSA Sectionals! The Mustangs will be seeking to qualify for the State Championships by placing in the top 2 or hitting the automatic state qualifying time of 4:07.5. The Mustangs have now had another full week of training, including impressive 200m repeats, and will be looking to smash the school record again, and qualify for the State Championships.
