On Sunday, March 21, 2010, the Northside Varsity Mens All Star Track & Field Team traveled to Henry Crown Field House in Chicago, Illinois for the 2010 Indoor City Championships. Team Trophies were awarded to the Top two teams, and Medals were awarded to the Top 6 Individuals in each event.

Henry Crown Stadium features an athlete friendly atmosphere, upper deck seating, 200m Indoor Track and has been the host to numerous National meets, and local Championship meets as well. The Varsity letter was invented in the 1890s by Amos Alonzo Stagg as he was sitting on the entrance steps to Henry Crown Field house. The main wall of the stadium constains a list of field house records, which include several Olympians. The first Heisman Trophy winner (1935), Hay Berwanger is still listed on the all-time list for Henry Crown for the 55m Dash. Henry Crown Field house is a Chicago landmark that is rich in Track & Field history.

A special thanks to CPS Track & Field coordinator Thomas Smith for hosting an outstanding meet, and for providing a great Track & Field experience for all of the athletes and spectators.

This meet had the finest officiating crew in the State of Illinois, thanks to IHSA Official Richard Dust, and University of St.Francis Head Track Coach Drew Ludtke. Drew Ludtke had every member of his collegiate Team, study and take the certication exam to become a certified IHSA Official to help officiate the 2010 CPS Indoor Championship meet. Their efforts made it the best run meet in Illinois. In the past, members of various Chicago Public League coaching staffs had to officiate and coach the meet at the same time. The 2010 Indoor City Championships was the first time that the CPS Championship Indoor Meet had triple the officials needed to officiate a high school track meet, and no additional help was needed for the meet.

Prior to his outstanding collegiate coaching career, Drew Ludtke was an incredible collegiate athlete, and walked-on the 1998 LSSU Nationally ranked Cross Country Team (ranked 21st Nationally), and also placed in the top six in the 800m run. In addition to Cross Country, and Track, Ludtke was also a member of the LSSU Basketball Team.  He was coached at LSSU in Track and Cross Country by D.J. Baars, who is a former collegiate teammate of Northside College Prep Head Coach Jon Gordon at Northern Michigan University in 1990. Drew Ludtke has been involved in competitive running since 1983, and both of his parents were Cross Country and Track coaches. It was great to see him at the meet on Sunday, and his athletes did an outstanding job officiating the 2010 CPS Indoor Championships.

A special thanks also to Northside Volunteer assistant Coach Jose Nebrida for handing out all of the Medals to the CPS Athletes, and enhancing the awards ceremonies.

A special thanks also to Northside Alumni Eric Nelson for traveling all the way to Chicago to cheer on the Mustangs at the 2010 Indoor City Championships.

Last, a meet with 46 teams, doesn't happen without all the CPS coaches briniging their respective Teams to the meet. Several Teams ran in a meet on Saturday, and still came to the meet on Sunday to make this meet happen. A special thanks to all of the CPS opposing coaches who made the sacerfices necessary for this meet to happen, by giving up their entire Sunday so the Indoor Championships would be a special experience for all of their athletes. It was the largest high school conference meet in Illinois, and Northside College Prep wants to thank every opposing team for coming to it.

It was also a very special day for the Northside Mustangs. The Northside Mustangs beat every Team in their IHSA Sectional, which was very important, and came away with two individual City Champions (3200m run, 800m run), and earned All City honors in the High Jump, 4x800m Relay, 400m Dash, and Mile. Numerous Personal records were also set throughout the night. The Mustangs earned a record number of medals at the Indoor City Championships, and surprised everybody but themselves with their outstanding TEAM performance.

Kenwood Academy and Urban Prep tied for first place with 62 points to win the 2010 Indoor city title. Congradulations to Urban Prep Head Coach Derrick Brooms! and Kenwood Academy Head Coach Phillip Wallace! Simeon finished in third place with 38 points.
