Northside WINS Distance Medley Relay! Northside SECOND in High Huddle Shuttle Relay! 4x100m Relay School Record broken!

 On Friday, April 28, 2017, the Northside Varsity Men traveled to Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook, Illinois for the 55th Annual Spartan Relays.

 The meet featured Deerfield, Elgin, New Trier, Glenbrook South, Northside College Prep, Stevenson, Lake Zurich, Loyola Academy, Lake Forest, Waukegan, and host Glenbrook North.

 The meet featured the High Jump Relay, Long Jump Relay, Pole Vault Relay, Triple Jump Relay, Shot Put Relay, Discus Relay, High Hurdle Shuttle Relay, 4x800m Relay, 4x100m Relay, Distance Medley Relay, Middle Distance Medley Relay (200m-200m-400m-800m), Sprint Medley Relay, 4x1 Mile Relay, 4x200m Relay, Low Hurdle Shuttle Relay, Throwers 4x100m Relay, and the 4x400m Relay.

 It is the best relay meet in Illinois, and the hospitality and sportsmanship was second to none. The Spartan Relays has over fifty years history of future Olympians, State Champions, and All State Athletes coming together to compete in the Ultimate Relay meet. All events are Relays, including Field Events and Hurdles.

 The stands were filled to stadium capacity. A Medal or a Ribbon from Spartan Relays is priceless. The Top 3 Teams in each event are awarded a Medal, and places fourth through six are awarded a Ribbon.

 The Northside Distance Medley Relay School record was 10:50.25, and it has lasted since 2016. It was held by among others, future NCAA All American and Alumni legend Danny Rosen.

 Northside Senior Alex Ortiz, Junior Charlie Guthmann, Junior Jacob Yosowitz, and Senior Kyle Friedler BROKE THE SCHOOL RECORD by 0.30 of a second to WIN Spartan Relays with an impressive Distance Medley Relay time of 10:49.95!

 Alex Ortiz, Charlie Guthmann, Jacob Yosowitz, and Kyle Friedler were awarded GOLD MEDALS at Spartan Relays for Winning the Distance Medley Relay. Alex Ortiz, Charlie Guthmann, Jacob Yosowitz, and Kyle Friedler were honored again at practice with Watermelons for breaking the school record! Alex Ortiz, Charlie Guthmann, Jacob Yosowitz, and Kyle Friedler will also receive plaques for breaking the school record at the June 3, 2017 Northside Track & Field Banquet at the East Bank Club.

 Chicago Northside WON the Distance Medley Relay with an official time of 10:49.95 (School Record). Lake Zurich finished in second place with an official time of 10:58.63. Deerfield finished in third place with an official time of 10:59.44. Stevenson finished in fourth place with an official time of 11:12.58. New Trier finished in fifth place with an official time of 11.21.55. Glenbrook South finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with an official time of 11:34.12. 

 In the 4x110m High Hurdles Shuttle Relay, Northside improved from fourth place (2016) to SECOND place in one year!! Senior Jay Borgwardt, Junior Asher Rappaport, Senior Jack Nolan, and Junior Elias Decker finished in SECOND place with an official time of 1:11.96. Athletes that stayed for the awards ceremony after the meet were awarded SILVER MEDALS for finishing in SECOND place overall.

 In the 4x110m Low Hurdles Shuttle Relay, Northside finished in THIRD place with an outstanding time of 1:02.08. Senior Jay Borgwardt, Junior Asher Rappaport, Senior Jack Nolan, and Junior Elias Decker were awarded MEDALS for finishing in THIRD place overall in a nice ceremony after the meet.

 The Northside 4x100m Relay School record was 44.88, and has lasted since 2011. It was held by Alumni legends Nathaniel Agharese (Stanford), Josh Williams (Northwestern), Wesley Laytham (Davidson), and Mac Melto (Depaul, 2017 BIG East Champions).

 In the 4x100m Relay, Northside Juniors Nick Brown, Gabe Piechnik, Guy Lohoua, and Sophomore Osazee Osaghae finished in FIFTH place and BROKE THE SCHOOL RECORD with an official time of 44.87. Nick Brown, Gabe Piechnik, Guy Lohoua, and Osazee Osaghae were awarded a RIBBON for finishing in fifth place overall, and Watermelons at practice for break the school record! Nick Brown, Gabe Piechnik, Guy Lohoua, and Osazee Osaghae will also be awarded PLAQUES at the June 3, 2017 Track and Field Banquet at the East Bank Club for breaking the School Record!

 In the Shot Put Relay, Northside Junior Matthew Garder threw 40'06. Northside Senior Matthew Kosova threw 37'09. Northside Junior Daniel Agbeo threw 37'03.50. Northside Junior Guy Lohoua thew 31'02.00. Matthew Garder, Matthew Kosova, Daniel Agbeo, and Guy Lohoua BROKE the SHOT PUT RELAY SCHOOL RECORD with combined throws of 146'7.5. Matthew Gardner, Matthew Kosova, Daniel Agbeo, and Guy Lohoua received Watermelons at practice, and will receive PLAQUES at the June 3, 2017 Track and Field Banquet at the East Bank Club for breaking the School Record!
