Posted by Jon Gordon on Mar 31 2017 at 05:00PM PDT

In the Danny Rosen 1600m at the Eric Nelson Classic, Northside Senior Alex Ortiz had a legendary performance for the ages. Ortiz came into the meet with an Indoor PR of 4:42.40 (2017), and an Outdoor PR of 4:37.80 (2016). Alex Ortiz also ran a 2:01.56 800m at the 2016 IHSA State Track & Field championships. Alex Ortiz also repped with 220 lbs in the Deadlift in the Northside Weight room the week prior to the Eric Nelson Classic. Ortiz was ready for the performance of his life.

Northside Captain Alex Ortiz ran the first 400m in 62 seconds, and then ran the next 400m in 68 seconds (2:10), and was on pace for the school record, and the Class 3A IHSA State qualifying time in the 1600m (4:20.94). Alex Ortiz was also 200m ahead of the entire field. It was awesome.

Northside Senior Alex Ortiz then ran the third 400m in 70 seconds (3:20 1200m), and then ran the final 400m in an EVEN split of 70 seconds to WIN the 1600m run with a PERSONAL BEST time of 4:30.35. It was the third fastest 1600m run time in the history of Northside College Prep! Alex Ortiz dropped 12.05 seconds from his 2017 season best time (4:42.40) for a PERSONAL BEST time of 4:30.35.

Alex Ortiz will receive a PLAQUE for winning the Danny Rosen 1600m run at the Eric Nelson Classic.

Alex Ortiz will be racing the 3200m at the Niles West Paul Gans Invitational on April 8, 2017. The Northside coaching staff projects that he will break the 10 minutes barrier, and that it will help give him the strength to run the automatic state qualifying time of 4:20.94 in May 2017.

University High Senior Brian Brady finished in second place with an official time of 4:55.22. Northside Junior Jacob Yosowitz dropped four seconds (4:59.69) to finish in THIRD place with a PERSONAL BEST time of 4:55.46. Jacob Yosowitz will be awarded a MEDAL for finishing in third place overall.

The Northside Coaching staff is entering Jacob Yosowitz in a competive 4x800m Relay with Kyle Friedler, Sergio Soto, and Charlie Guthmann at the Niles West Paul Gans Invitational.

University High Junior Harrison Shapiro finished in fourth place with an official time of 4:59.69. Von Steuben Senior Jonathan Fernandez finished in fifth place with an official time of 5:01.79.
