Northside Junior Alex Ortiz passes Alumni legend Simon Kafka with a personal best 4:45.09! Brian McManus BREAKS the FIVE MINUTE BARRIER! 4:51.53!

 Northside Junior Alex Ortiz came into the meet, ranked with the 16th fastest 1600m time in the history of Northside. Next, on the all time list was Alumni legend Simon Kafka (15th, 4:45.55). Kafka anchored Northside to a School Record in the 4x800m Relay at the 2013 IHSA State Track & Field Championships, among other honors. Simon Kafka is currently competing at the collegiate level.

  In the Varsity 1600m run, St. Charles North Senior Michael Boone won it with an official time of 4:40.08. West Chicago Junior Dany McComb finished in second place with an official time of 4:40.11. Geneva Junior Jordan Evans finished in third place with an official time of 4:43.17. Dundee-Crown Senior Logan Hayes finished in fourth place with an official time of 4:43.42. Dundee-Crown Sophomore Anthony Hurgoi finished in fifth place with an official time of 4:43.85.

 Northside Junior Alex Ortiz ran an awesome race, and cruised through the first 800m in 2:23, and then ran the final 800m in a NEGATIVE split of 2:22 to finish in sixth place to complete the scoring with a PERSONAL BEST time of 4:45.09. Alex Ortiz dropped 17 seconds from the Glenbrook North Spartan Classic (4/13, 5:02). Alex Ortiz also passed Alumni legend Simon Kafka for the 15th fastest 1600m time in Northside history!

 The BENCH MARK for elite High School milers is the FIVE MINUTE BARRIER.

 Northside Junior Brian McManus dropped 11 seconds (5:02) to BREAK the FIVE MINUTE BARRIER with a PERSONAL BEST time of 4:51.53. Brian McManus also passed Alumni legend Adrian Black (4:52.58) for the 20th fastest 1600m time in Northside history! Brian McManus ran the first 800m in 2:25, and then ran the final 800m in 2:26 to finish in seventh place with an outstanding time of 4:51.53.

 Brian McManus will be honored in practice on Monday for breaking the five minutes barrier!!
