VARSITY ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: ADRIAN BLACK (5.2653)

Posted by Jon Gordon on Jun 04 2015 at 05:00PM PDT

Adrian Black was unfortunate to have a stress fracture during his Senior year of High School Track. However, it did not stop him. Adrian Black showed incredible mental toughness and determination. Adrian Black trained with Northside Head Coach Jon Gordon at 6:30 am everyday at the Northside Swimming pool by running in the deep end of the Pool with a Wet Vest. Adrian Black simulated TEAM workouts in the Swimming pool in an effort to return to action before the end of the season. Although his leg did not heal in time for him to race on land, he is now healthy, and built a strong running base in the pool to help him prepare for his first year of Collegiate Cross Country and Track.

Northside College Prep is academically ranked #3 in the Nation, and #1 in Illinois. Adrian Black is ranked #2 in the Senior class with a 5.2653 GPA. Adrian Black also has the top ACT (perfect score) and SAT scores at Northside. Adrian Black is being honored at graduation as the Salutatorian of the Senior Class.

Adrian Black has great leadership skills, and is also an Eagle Scout. Adrian Black was also co-Captain of the Northside Cross Country Team during his Senior year. He was also elected as the only student member of the local school council.

During his High School Athletic Career, Adrian Black helped the Mustangs win the SOPHOMORE BOYS CITY TITLE, by earning All City Honors in the 3200m run and the 1600m run. Adrian Black also helped the Mustangs win the IHSA SECTIONAL TRACK & FIELD TEAM TITLE by qualifying for the IHSA State Championships in the 3200m run.

During his Junior year of Track, Adrian Black helped the Mustangs win the INDOOR CITY TEAM TITLE, by finishing in third place to earn All City Honors in the 3200m run! During the outdoor season, Adrian Black ran a personal best time of 10:05.19, and is ranked as the sixth fastest 3200m runner in Northside history!

Adrian Black earned 3 Varsity letters in Cross Country, and 4 Varsity letters in Track!
