Northside Track & Field TEAM honored at the East Bank Club! 39 Athletes break a SCHOOL RECORD in 2015!

  On Friday, June 5, 2015, the Northside Track & Field Team was honored at the East Bank Club in Chicago, Illinois. A very special banquet took place in honor of the greatest Track & Field Team in Northside history!!! 

 Northside hosted the most spectacular Track & Field banquet in the country! It ranks right up there with the Hesiman Trophy Presentation at the New York Athletic Club.

 The 2015 Northside Track season was one of the most successful seasons in the history of Northside College Prep. 

 39 athletes earned Watermelons and a plaque for BREAKING A SCHOOL RECORD in an individual event and/or relay! It was the most school records broken by any school in Illinois.  

 The Northside Varsity Men WON the Indoor City Title for the Group A division for the second consecutive year! Trophies were awarded at the Banquet to all 24 members of the Indoor City Championship Team, including Relay alternates, and athletes in attendance at the Indoor City Championships to support the TEAM!

 Northside also won individual City titles in the 4x800m, 3200m, High Jump, and 4x400m Relay at the Indoor City Championships. City Champion Enamel Pins were awarded to athletes that won individual titles in the 4x800m (Max McCoy, Matthew Gomez, Troy Hu, Alex Ortiz), 3200m (Kyle Friedler), High Jump (Ari Perlmutter), and 4x400m Relay (Malcolm Grba, Danny Rosen, Porter Abbey, and Tom Frejowski) at the Indoor City Championships. 

 Northside also had Illinois Prep Top Times Indoor State qualifier in the 800m run (Danny Rosen).  Northside Junior Danny Rosen reached the Medal Stand in the 800m run at Illinois Prep Top Times!

 At the IHSA Sectional Championships, Northside earned ALL SECTIONAL HONORS in the Triple Jump (Matt Osborne), 4x200m Relay (Keith Jones, Garret Barch, Justin Washington, Philip Wdowiak), 400m Dash (Tom Frejowski), 110m Hurdles (Garret Barch), 300m Hurdles (Porter Abbey), 1600m (Danny Rosen, Malcolm Grba), and 4x400m Relay (Keith Jones, Philip Wdowiak, Malcolm Grba, Tom Frejowski). 

 Northside also qualified for the IHSA State Track & Field Championships for the EIGHTH consecutive year!! Since 2008, Northside is the only Track Program in the CPS that has qualified for the IHSA State Championships for eight consecutive years! It also the only Sport at Northside that has been to the State Championships for eight consecutive years.

 At the 2015 IHSA State Track & Field Championships, Northside Senior Tom Frejowski ran an outstanding time of 51.47 400m dash. An IHSA State qualifying Medal was presented to Tom Frejowski. 

 Northside also had several alumni become heros to the Team in NCAA Track & Field Meets  throughout the country! Wesley Laytham at Davidson. Charlie Mesimore at Cornell. Cooper Eben at Duke. Mac Melto at DePaul. Simon Kafka at Beloit. Alex Gordon at Macalaster. 

 Northside athletes, coaches, parents, and distinguished guests started the evening with an incredible Italian Buffet Dinner. Everyone took several trips through the buffet line, it was one of the most amazing meals the Team and coaching staff ever had in their entire lives. 

  The Team Dinner, included Mushroom Tortellini in white wine, herbs, and cheese, Chicken Vesuio with potatoes and peas, Pan-Seared Salmon in tomato-fennel sauce, and Cheese Stuffed aracini with marinara on the side. Antipasto, included Romaine Hearts with caesar dressing, Prosciutto with melon, Vegetable Antipasto Salad, Mushroom and Spinach Salad. The Italian Buffet Dinner also included Flatbread, Grissini, Filone, and Ciabatta with dipping oil and parmesan. Desserts included, Tiramisu with espresso sauce, Fresh Fruit, and Cannolis.

 After Dinner, Northside Head Coach Jon Gordon, first honored the Northside parents, and each member of his Coaching Staff. 

 Next, each event coach, Vernon James (Sprints), Makenzie Carr (Hurdles and Jumps), Erasmo De La Cruz (Throws), Jon Gordon (Pole Vault), Patrick O'Connor (Sophomore Distance), Jon Gordon (Freshman and Varsity Distance), presented Letter Awards to their event groups. Volunteer Assistant Coach Jose Nebrida helped distribute each letter award. 

 Northside Head Coach Jon Gordon then presented the most prestigous Team Awards, Freshman Academic Awards, Freshman Mustang Awards, Freshman Points Trophy, Freshman MVP Awards, Sophomore Academic Awards, Sophomore Mustang Awards, Sophomore Points Trophy, Sophomore MVP Awards, Indoor City Champion Team Trophies (24), City Champion Enamel Pins to Indoor City Champions in individual events and relays (18), School Record Breaker Plaques (39), Varsity Points Trophy, Varsity Academic Award, Varsity Mustang Award, Varsity MVP Award, and an IHSA State Qualifer Medal.
