Alex Ortiz WINS Sophomore 1600m run with a personal record of 4:48.59!

 In the Sophomore 1600m run, Northside Sophomore Alex Ortiz ran 400m splits of 72 seconds, 73 seconds (2:25 800m split), and then ran a 400m split of 74 seconds (3:39 1200m split), and then ran the final 400m in a NEGATIVE split of 69 seconds to WIN the 1600m run with a PERSONAL BEST time of 4:48.59Alex Ortiz was forced to outside lanes in the final 100m, and outkicked the competition to the finsh line just like Olympian Billy Mills did in the 1964 Olympics. Alex Ortiz also had watched the movie "Running Brave", which is the story of Olympic Gold Medalist Billy Mills, the night before the Niles West Fred Zydek Invitaional.

 Northside Sophomore Alex Ortiz tied Alumni legend, coach, and mentor Patrick O'Conor on the Northside 1600m run All time list with the 17th fastest 1600m run time in the history of Northside! Alex Ortiz was also awarded a MEDAL for finishing in FIRST place in the Sophomore 1600m run!
