On Friday, February 6, 2015, the Northside Sophomore Track & Field TEAM traveled to Skokie, Illinois for the Niles West Wolves Indoor Classic.

The Niles West Wolves Indoor Classic featured Niles North, Northtown Academy, Taft, Northside College Prep, Perspective Charter Leadership, Von Steuben, Perspective Charter IIT Math & Science, North Lawndale, Schurz, and host Niles West.

A special thanks to Niles West Head Coach Chris Vivone, Distance Coach Michael Grossman, and staff for hosting an outstanding meet. Northside would also like to thank IHSA official Lawrence Genge and crew for an outstanding job officiating the Niles West Wolves Indoor Classic.

The opening of the Indoor Track & Field season is a special day. A Track & Field meet features 18 events, with non-stop action on the Track, and events being run simutaneously in the Field, including Shot Put, Long Jump, Triple Jump, and High Jump. The first recorded Track & Field meet dates back to the Anicent Olymic Games, in 776 B.C. in Olympia, Greece.

In 2014, the Chicago Northside Sophomore Boys scored 52.00 points at Niles West.

In 2015, the Chicago Northside Sophomore Boys scored 69.00 points at the Niles West Wolves Indoor Classic!

Individual events and Relays were scored 10-8-6-4-2-1.

In the Sophomore Shot Put, Northside Sophomore Jacob Cosby WON it with an outstanding throw of 37'4. Jacob Cosby scored the first 10 points of the meet by winning the Shot Put!!

One of the highlights of the day was the Sophomore 1600m race. The bench mark for elite high school milers is the 5:00 barrier.

A year ago (2014), Kyle Friedler ran a 5:48.80 at the Niles West Indoor Classic.

After a strong summer of building his mileage base, Kyle Friedler made the Varsity Cross Country Team in the Fall, and competed in the IHSA Cross Country Sectional Championships.

Just days after Cross Country season ended, Kyle Friedler was already training for Track, and continued to train consistently throughout the winter.

In January 2015, Kyle Friedler made the Mustangs fastest training group with Malcolm Grba and Danny Rosen. At the first Indoor Track workout, Friedler ran 9x400m at a pace that was seven seconds faster than his goal pace!! The Northside Coaching staff immediately informed him that he was ready for the five minute mile barrier.

In the Sophomore 1600m run, Northside Sophomore Kyle Friedler ran the first 800m in 2:28, and then ran the final 800m in 2:32 to finish in SECOND place with a PERSONAL BEST time of 5:00.07. In one year, Kyle Friedler dropped 48.73 seconds (5:48.80) from 2014 Niles West Indoor Classic! The best is yet to come! Friedler will be the next Northside athlete to break the five minutes barrier!

Friedler also ran one of the fastest sophomore 1600m times ever recorded in the first meet of the season. School record holder, Danny Rosen, as a Sophomore, won the 1600m run with a 5:04.10 at the Niles West Indoor Classic in 2014.
