Garret Barch WINS Long Jump! Brian McManus THIRD in Long Jump! Sarrin Chethik DROPS 12 Seconds in the 3200m run at Highland Park! Sophomore Boys 5th!

 On Friday, April 25, 2014, the Northside Sophomore Boys traveled to Wolters Field in Highland Park, Illinois for the Highland Park Twilight Invitational.

 The meet featured Grayslake North, New Trier, Larkin, Taft, Mundelein, Northside College Prep, and host Highland Park High School.

 Individual events and Relays were scored on the following points scale: 10-8-6-4-2-1.

 Highland Park won the Sophomore meet. New Trier finished in second place. Mundelein finished in third place. Grayslake North finished in fourth place. Northside finished in 5th place on the Sophomore level with 45 points, and posted victories over: 6. Larkin (14 points), and 7. Taft (8 points).

 In the Long Jump, Northside Sophomore Garret Barch WON it with a jump of 16'02.50. Garret Barch was awarded a RIBBON for winning the Long Jump! Northside Freshman Brian McManus finished in THIRD place with a jump of 15'06.25. Brian McManus was awarded a RIBBON for finishing in third place in the Long Jump! Northside scored 16 points in the Long Jump! 

 In the Triple Jump, Northside Freshman Jack Nolan finished in seventh place with a PERSONAL BEST jump of 29'08.50. Jack Nolan improved 1'01.50 in the Triple Jump!

 In the High Jump, Northside Sophomore Derrick Staples finished in fifth place with a leap of 4'10. Derrick Staples was awarded a RIBBON for finishing in fifth place overall. Northside Sophomore Xavier Sigelko finished in sixth place with a personal best jump of 4'8. Xavier Sigelko was awarded a RIBBON for finishing in sixth place overall.

 In the Pole Vault, Northside Sophomore Xavier Sigelko finished in THIRD place with a personal best vault of 8'6. Xavier Sigelko was awarded a RIBBON for finishing in third place overall. Northside Sophomore Brendan Powers finished in eighth place with an outstanding vault of 7'6.

 In the Shot Put, Northside Freshman Jacob Cosby finished in fifth place with a throw of 36'02.

 In the Discus, Northside Sophomore Gabriel Krell finished in ninth place with a personal best throw of 78'02. Northside Freshman Jacob Cosby finished in twelfth place with a throw of 54'10.

 In the 4x800m Relay, Northside Freshman Alex Ortiz ran the first 400m in 68 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 71 seconds for an 800m split of 2:19.87, and then made a nice exchange to Freshman Brian McManus. Brian McManus ran the first 400m in 70 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 75 seconds for a personal best 800m split of 2:25.19, and then made a perfect exchange to Sophomore Gabe Stacey. Gabe Stacey ran the first 400m in 69 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 78 seconds for an 800m split of 2:27.98, and then made a nice exchange to Freshman Sergio Soto. Sergio Soto anchored the Mustangs to fifth place by running the first 400m in 66 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 76 seconds for a personal best 800m split of 2:22.94 for an official time of 9:35.90.

 In the 4x100m Relay, Northside Freshman Jacob Cosby ran the first leg of the relay in a 100m split of 13.22, and then made an exchange to Sophomore Troy Hu. Troy Hu ran a 100m split of 12.31, and then made an exchange to Sophomore Garret Barch. Garret Barch ran a 100m split of 12.26, and then made a nice exchange to Freshman Josh Borgwardt. Josh Borgwardt anchored the Mustangs to fifth place with a 100m split of 12.43 for an official time of 50.64. Jacob Cosby, Troy Hu, Garret Barch, and Josh Borgwardt were awarded RIBBONS for finishing in fifth place overall.

 In the 3200m run, Northside Sophomore Sarrin Chethik ran 400m splits of 75, 83 (2:38 800m), 83 (4:01 1200m), 88 (5:29 1600m), 85 (6:54), 88 (8:22), 85 (9:47), and then ran the final 400m in an EVEN slit of 85 seconds for a PERSONAL BEST time of 11:12.97. Sarrin Chethik ran the first mile in 5:29, and then ran the final mile in 5:43 to finish in sixth place with an outstanding time of 11:12.97. Sarrin Chethik was awarded a RIBBON for finishing in sixth place overall.

 Northside Freshman Kyle Friedler ran 400m splits of 76, 81 (2:37 800m), 83 (4:00 1200m), 88 (5:28 1600m), 86 (6:54 2000m), 87 (8:21 2400m), 89 (9:50 2800m), and then ran the final 400m in a NEGATIVE split of 87 seconds for an outstanding time of 11:17.84. Kyle Friedler ran the first mile in 5:28, and then ran the final mile in 5:49 for an official time of 11:17.84.
