Northside has BIG day at Niles West! Abbey 19'6.5 Long Jump! Rosen WINS 1600! Kafka 3rd in 800! 4x400 SECOND! 3:34! Fitzpatrick 41'3.50 Triple Jump!

 On Saturday, April 12, 2014, the Northside Varsity Men traveled to Niles West High School in Skokie, Illinois for the 44th Annual Paul Gans Invitational. Paul Gans was an outstanding three sports athlete, who finished 2nd in State in the 200m Dash. He also held the school records for Niles West in the 100m, 200m, 400m and Long Jump. The Paul Gans Invitational has been held since 1970. Paul Gans would have been proud of the Chicago Northside Mustangs performance on Saturday.

 The meet featured Fenwick, Northside College Prep, Yorkville, Plainfield East, Metea Valley, Antioch, Huntley, Harlem, Mather, and host Niles West High School.

 A year ago (2013), Northside finished in ninth place at the Paul Gans Invitational with 22 points. That changed dramatically on Saturday. Northside almost tripled their points totals in 2014!

 Niles West won the meet. Plainfield East finished in second place. Northside finished in THIRD place with 64 points, and posted victories over: 4. Harlem (53 points), 5. Yorkville (49 points), 5. Huntley (49 points), 7. Metea Valley (42 points), 8. Antioch (41 points), 9. Mather (26 points), and 10. Fenwick (4 points).

  In a nice awards ceremony following the meet, Northside was presented with a large engraved plaque for finishing in third place at the Paul Gans Invitational. 

 MEDALS were awarded to the top six individuals and relays. The Northside Coaching Staff awards Watermelons for ALL school records broken at every meet.

 Individual events and relays were scored 10-8-6-4-2-1.

 At the Paul Gans Invitational, the TEAM was greeted by Northside All Time Greats and Alumni legends Patrick Brennan (Notre Dame) and Bessie Nolan (University of Miami).

 Northside Junior Porter Abbey has been working with Coach Wallace in the weight room, and improved his deadlift to 315 lbs and on Saturday he benefited accordingly in the Long Jump.

 In the Varsity Long Jump, Northside Junior Porter Abbey improved 1'2.50 (18'4) to finish in fifth place with a PERSONAL BEST jump of 19'6.50. Porter Abbey was awarded a MEDAL for finishing in fifth place overall. Northside Junior Matt Osborne jumped an outstanding 17'8.25.

 In addition to weight training at Northside, Lucien Fitzpatrick has been doing one legged squats at home, and on Saturday he benefited accordingly in the Triple Jump.

 In the Varsity Triple Jump, Northside Senior Lucien Fitzpatrick improved over 2'0 (39'3) to finish in THIRD place with a PERSONAL BEST jump of 41'3.50. Lucien Fitzpatrick was awarded a MEDAL for finishing in third place overall. Northside Junior Porter Abbey jumped an outstanding 38'1.

 In the Varsity High Jump, Northside Captain Lucien Fitzpatrick finished in THIRD place with an outstanding leap of 5'10. Lucien Fitzpatrick was awarded a MEDAL for finishing in third place. Northside Captain Ari Perlmutter finished in fourth place with an outstanding leap of 5'6. Ari Perlmutter was awarded a MEDAL for finishing in fourth place. Northside scored 10 points in the High Jump!

 In the Varsity Shot Put, Northside Junior Ari Perlmutter threw an outstanding 37'10.50. Northside Senior Henry Lothschutz threw an outstanding 32'04.25.

 In the Varsity Discus, Northside Senior Henry Lothschutz threw an outstanding 103'04.

  In the Varsity Pole Vault, Northside Junior Connor Fulton made three outstanding attempts at 8'0, but was unable to clear it.

 In the Varsity 100m Dash Prelims, Northside Junior Matt Osborne ran a personal best time of 12.38. Northside Junior Max McCoy ran an outstanding time of 13.39.

 In the Varsity 110m Hurdles Prelims, Northside Senior Lucien Fitzpatrick BROKE THE SCHOOL RECORD and WON his heat to advance to the Finals with a personal best time of 15.48. Lucien Fitzpatrick will be honored in practice and receive a Watermelon for breaking the school record! Northside Junior Porter Abbey advanced to the Finals with an outstanding time of 17.90.

 In the Varsity 200m Dash Prelims, Northside Junior Tom Frejowski ran an outstanding time of 24.51. Frejowski came within .09 of a second of advancing to the Finals. Northside Junior Gabriel Jiminez-Ekhman ran an outstanding time of 25.90.
