On Wednesday, March 6, 2013, the Northside Varsity Men traveled to Bensenville, Illinois to Bison Stadium for the Fenton Indoor Classic.

Fenton is the home of the Metro Suburban Conference Track and Field Champions. Fenton has won the Metro Suburban Conference Track & Field Championships, two of the last four years, and famous alumni include Olympian Jim Spivey, and Chris Siemers.

Fenton is a special venue, and a great atmosphere for Track & Field. The P.A. announcer makes all the Teams feel welcome, and gives scoring updates after every event. The announcer also lets the crowd know the height of the High Jump cross bar throughout the evening competition. The high jump competition lasted throughout the entire meet, and ended with impressive attempts at 6'5.

Fenton also features a 135 yards track. Athletes have the priviledge of knowing their racing splits every 135 yards for 26 laps in the Two miles run.

All of the events are in Yards at Fenton. As a result, the athletes race 3,510 yards for the Two Miles run, which is actually 3,209.54 Meters. The athletes race 1,755 yards for the mile, which is actually 1,604.772 Meters. The athletes race 880 yards for the half-mile, which is actually 804.672 Meters. The athletes race 440 yards for the quarter, which is actually 402.336 Meters. The athletes race 220 yards for the 200, which is actually 201.168 Meters.

The Fenton Indoor Classic featured Gordon Tech, Conant, Northside College Prep, and host Fenton. Individual Events were scored 6-4-3-2-1, and Relays were scored 6-4-2.

Fenton came into the meet as big favorites on the Varsity level, after posting a perfect score in Cross Country at the Gordon Tech Invitational in September 2012. Fenton Harriers Crist Silva (entered in the 800m), Danny Wiggin (entered in the 1600m), and Wade Smith (entered in the 1600m) all finished ahead of the entire Mustangs squad at the Gordon Tech Invitational in September 2012, and were also state qualifiers. The Northside College Prep Varsity squad had not posted a win against Fenton since 2009. That changed dramatically on Wednesday.

Northside College Prep, Fenton, and Conant pulled away early in the meet from IHSA Sectional opponent Gordon Tech (14.50 points), and the Northside Varsity upset Fenton by a score of 64.50 to 36.50! The Mustangs were very impressive, including posting wins in the 3200m, 800m, and 1600m, among others. It was one of the most exciting track meets of the season. A special thanks to Fenton Head Coach John Kurtz for hosting an outstanding meet.

The Northside Varsity Men had a record of 2-1 on the day, and now have a season record of 29-8.

In the Pole Vault, Northside Senior Spencer Parts cleared 6'6, and made three outstanding attempts at 7'0.

In the Shot Put, Gordon Tech's Javier Ortiz won it with a throw of 46'2. Ortiz is currently leading the Northside Sectional in Shot Put.
