Northside WINS George Washington Indoor Classic! 4x800m Relay SECOND! Lucien Fitzpatrick SECOND in Triple Jump and THIRD in Long Jump!

On Friday, February 22, 2013, the Northside Varsity Men traveled to the Unversity of Chicago's Henry Crown Field House in Chicago, Illinois for the George Washington Indoor Classic.

 The first President of the United States, George Washington was born on February 22, 1732. Almost 300 years later, his birthday was celebrated with a Track Meet at Henry Crown Field House. The meet featured 10 schools, including Lincoln Park, Evergreen Park, Northside College Prep, Walter Payton, Prospect, Luther North, Michelle Clark, Chicago Latin, Chicago Hope Academy, and host University High.

 Henry Crown Field house featured an athlete friendly atmosphere, upper deck seating, and the best 200m Indoor Track in Chicago. Henry Crown Field house has been the host to numerous National meets, and local Championship meets as well. The Varsity letter was invented in the1890s by Amos Alonzo Stagg as he was sitting on the entrance steps to Henry Crown Field house. The main wall of the stadium contains a list of field house records, which include several Olympians. The first Heisman Trophy winner (1935), Jay Berwanger is still listed on the all time list for Henry Crown Field house for the 55m dash. Henry Crown Field house is a Chicago landmark that is rich in Track & Field history. 

 The Northside Varsity Men WON the George Washington Indoor Classic at Henry Crown Field house with 109 points, and posted victories over: 2. Walter Payton (81 points), 3. Prospect (77 points), 4. Evergreen Park (66 points), 5. Michelle Clark (43.50 points), 6. University High (30.50 points), 7. Lincoln Park (25 points), 8. Chicago Hope Academy (20 points), 9. Chicago Latin (0 points), and 10. Luther North (0 points). 

 The Northside Varsity Men had a record of 9-0 on the day, and now have a season record of 27-7. The Northside Sophomores are 19-0, and the Northside Freshman are 18-1 this season.

 Individual events and relays were scored on the following points scale: 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1.

 In the Long Jump, Northside Junior Lucien Fitzpatrick finished in third place with an outstanding jump of 17'5.75. Northside Sophomore Porter Abbey finished in fifth place with an outstanding jump of 16'8.75. Northside Sophomore Matt Osborne finished in sixth place with a personal best jump of 16'7. Northside Junior Marshan Milsap finished in tenth place with a personal best jump of 15'8. Northside Junior Walter Johnson-Geis finished in 13th place with a personal best jump of 15'2. Northside Sophomore Alejandro Ballesteros finished in 15th place with a personal best jump of 13'7.50.

 In the Triple Jump, Northside Junior Lucien Fitzpatrick finished in SECOND place with a personal best jump of 38'1.50. Northside Sophomore Porter Abbey finished in fourth place with an outstanding jump of 36'05.00. Northside Sophomore Matt Osborne finished in seventh place with an outstanding jump of 35'01.75. Northside Junior Marshan Milsap finished in eighth place to complete the scoring with a personal best jump of 35'02.50. Northside Junior Jay Yu finished in ninth place with an outstanding jump of 32'11.00.

 In the 4x800m "A" Relay, Northside finished in SECOND place with an official time of 8:54.23. Northside Sophomore Malcolm Grba ran the first leg of the relay with 200m splits of 31, 34 (65 400m), 35, and then ran the final 200m in a NEGATIVE split of 32 seconds for a 2:12.34 800m split, and made a perfect exchange to Northside Junior Simon Kafka. Simon Kafka ran the second leg of the relay with 200m splits of 30, 31 (61 400m), 34, and then ran the final 200m in an EVEN split of 34 seconds for a 2:09.11 800m split, and made a nice exchange to Sophomore Max McCoy. Max McCoy ran the third leg of the relay with 200m splits of 33, 35 (68 400m), 39, and then ran the final 200m in a NEGATIVE split of 35 seconds for a 2:22.41 800m split, and made a good exchange to Northside Senior Patrick Brennan. Patrick Brennan anchored the Mustangs to SECOND place with 200m splits of 30, 33 (63 400m), 33, and then ran the final 200m in 34 seconds for a 2:10.05 800m split for an official time of 8:54.23.

 In the 4x800m "B" Relay, Northside finished in seventh place with an official time of 11:06.60. Northside Sophomore Jack O'Donnell ran a 2:31.00 800m split on the first leg of the relay. Northside Freshman Geir Falck-Pedersen ran a 2:44.30 800m split on the second leg of the relay. Northside Freshman Emmet Hilly ran a 2:51.00 800m split on the third leg of the relay. Northside Freshman Justin Washington anchored the Mustangs with a 3:00.30 800m split for an official time of 11:06.60.
