Patrick Brennan runs 4:44.67 Mile! Sophomore Malcolm Grba BREAKS FIVE MINUTES barrier with a 4:51.71 Mile! Sophomore Adrian Black runs 5:09 Mile!

 In the 1600m run, Whitney Young Junior Jon Villasenor won it with an official time of 4:44.20. Northside Senior Patrick Brennan finished in second place with a season best time of 4:44.67!!! Captain Patrick Brennan ran the first 400m in 70 seconds, and then ran the next 400m in 75 seconds (2:25 800m), and then ran the next 400m in a NEGATIVE split of 73 seconds (3:38 1200m), and then ran the final 400m in another NEGATIVE split of 66.67 seconds for a season best time of 4:44.67. Patrick Brennan dropped 10 seconds (4:54) from the Niles West Invitational!   

 The five minute barrier is the bench mark for elite high school milers. In 1966, American distance legend Steve Prefontaine ran a Mile PR of 5:00 in his first season of High School Track & Field. On Saturday, February 9, 2013, Northside Sophomore Malcolm Grba ran his second mile race of his high school career, and BROKE THE FIVE MINUTES BARRIER with a personal best time of 4:51.71!!! Malcolm Grba ran the first 400m in 71 seconds, and then ran the next 400m in 75 seconds (2:26 800m), and then ran the next 400m in an EVEN split of 75 seconds (3:41 1200m), and then ran the final 400m in a NEGATIVE split of 70.71 seconds to finish in fourth place overall with a personal best time of 4:51.71. Malcolm Grba dropped 10 seconds (5:01) from the Niles West Invitational!

 Northside Sophomore Adrian Black is closing in on the five minuters barrier. Adrian Black finished in eighth place with a season best time of 5:09.36. Adrian Black dropped 9 seconds (5:18) from the Niles West Invitational! Adrian Black ran the first 400m in 76 seconds, and then ran the next 400m in an EVEN split of 76 seconds (2:32 800m), and then ran the next 400m in 80 seconds (3:52 1200m), and then ran the final 400m in a NEGATIVE split of 77.36 seconds for an official time of 5:09.36.

 Northside Senior Raymond Siddiqi dropped 17 seconds (5:34) from the Niles West Invitational with an outstanding time of 5:17.54. Raymond Siddiqi ran the first 400m in 75 seconds, and then ran the next 400m in 78 seconds (2:33 800m), and then ran the next 400m in 82 seconds (3:55 1200m), and then ran the final 400m in an EVEN split of 82 seconds to finish in 11th overall with an outstanding time of 5:17.54.

 Northside Freshman Danny Rosen dropped 5 seconds (5:27) from the Niles West Invitational with a personal best time of 5:22.23. Danny Rosen ran the first 400m in 76 seconds, and then ran the next 400m in 81 seconds (2:37 800m), and then ran the next 400m in 83 seconds (4:00 1200m), and then ran the final 400m in a NEGATIVE split of 82 seconds for a personal best time of 5:22.23.

 Northside Freshman Gabe Stacey dropped 21 seconds (5:44) from the Niles West Invitational with a personal best time of 5:23.88. Gabe Stacey ran the first 400m in 77 seconds, and then ran the next 400m in 81 seconds (2:38 800m), and then ran the next 400m in 83 seconds (4:01 1200m), and then ran the final 400m in a NEGATIVE split of 82 seconds for a personal best time of 5:23.88.
