 On Saturday, February 9, 2013, the Northside Varsity Men traveled to Henry Crown Field house at the University of Chicago for the Whitney Young Varsity Indoor Classic.

 Individual points were scored on the following point scale: 8-6-4-2-1. Relays were scored on the following point scale: 8-6-4.

 Henry Crown Field house featured an athlete friendly atmosphere, upper deck seating, and the best 200m Indoor Track in Chicago. Henry Crown Field house has been the host to numerous National meets, and local Championship meets as well. The Varsity letter was invented in the1890s by Amos Alonzo Stagg as he was sitting on the entrance steps to Henry Crown Field house. The main wall of the stadium contains a list of field house records, which include several Olympians. The first Heisman Trophy winner (1935), Jay Berwanger is still listed on the all time list for Henry Crown Field house for the 55m dash. Henry Crown Field house is a Chicago landmark that is rich in Track & Field history.

 The Whitney Young Indoor Classic at Henry Crown Field house, featured Kenwood Academy, Walter Payton, Northside College Prep, and host Whitney Young. Class 3A State Cross Country Individual Champion Jack Keelen, among others, also competed for St. Ignatius as exhibition. The meet was complete with FAT timing. A special thanks to Whitney Young for hosting an outstanding meet.

 Whitney Young won the meet with 108.50 points. The Northside Varsity (17-5) had an impressive second place finish with 82 points, and posted victories over Walter Payton (62 points), and Kenwood (40.50 points).

 In the High Jump, Northside Junior Lucien Fitzpatrick WON it with an outstanding jump of 5'8

 In the Shot Put, Northside Freshman Peter Kritikos threw a personal best 29'02.00. Northside Junior Henry Lothschutz threw an outstanding 28'11.00. Northside Sophomore Alejandro Ballesteros threw a personal best 22'08.00. Northside Sophomore Declan Galleher threw an outstanding 21'00.00. Northside Freshman William Kang threw an outstanding 19'00.00.

 In the Long Jump, Northside Sophomore Matt Osborne finished in fifth place with an outstanding jump of 16'0.50.

 In the Triple Jump, Northside Junior Lucien Fitzpatrick finished in third place with a jump of 36'06.50. Northside Sophomore Matt Osborne finished in fifth place to complete the scoring with a jump of 32'03.00. Northside Junior Jay Yu jumped an outstanding 30'10.75.

 In the Pole Vault, Northside Senior Spencer Parts finished in third place with a personal best vault of 7'0. Northside Freshman Emmet Hilly finished in fourth place with a personal best vault of 6'6.

 In the 4x800m Relay "A", Northside Junior Robert Szmurlo ran the first 400m in 67 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 77 seconds for an 800m split of 2:24.0, and then made a nice exchange to Sophomore Adrian Black. Adrian Black ran the first 400m in 71 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 72 seconds for an 800m split of 2:23.0, and then made a nice exchange to Senior Calvin Gang. Calvin Gang ran the third leg of the relay with an 800m split of 2:21.13, and then made a nice exchange to Freshman Danny Rosen. Danny Rosen ran the first 400m in 71.25, and then ran the final 400m in 73.50 for an 800m split of 2:24.75, to anchor the Mustangs into third place with an official time of 9:34.07.

 In the 4x800m Relay "B", Northside Sophomore Max McCoy ran the first 400m in 66 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 74 seconds for an 800m split of 2:20.02, and then made a perfect exchange to Freshman Matthew Gomez. Matthew Gomez ran the first 400m in 70 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 73 seconds for an 800m split of 2:23.02, and then made a nice exchange to Freshman Gabe Stacey. Gabe Stacey ran the first 400m in 71 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 80 seconds for an 800m split of 2:31.51, and then made a perfect exchange to Freshman Emmet Hilly. Emmet Hilly ran the first 400m in 79 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 87 seconds for an 800m split of 2:46.57, to anchor the Mustangs into sixth place with an official time of 10:01.94.

 In the 4x800m Relay "C", Northside was missing Freshman Alejandro Serrano, and Freshman Alejandro Linan. As a result, the Mustangs ran the first two legs of the relay. Northside Sophomore Declan Galleher ran an 800m split of 2:54.00. Northside Freshman Hyunwoo Ward ran an 800m split of 3:00.00.

 In the 3200m run, Northside Junior Cesar Rufino finished in second place with a PERSONAL BEST time of 10:44.65. Cesar Rufino ran the first mile in 5:09, and then ran the final mile in 5:35 for an official time of 10:44.65. Northside Junior Alex Gordon finished in seventh place with an outstanding time of 11:47.27. Alex Gordon ran the first mile in 5:43, and then ran the final mile 6:04 for an official time of 11:47.27. Northside Sophomore Jack O'Donnell finished in eighth place with an outstanding time of 12:04.23. Jack O'Donnell ran the first mile in 6:00, and then ran the final mile in 6:04 for an official time of 12:04.23. Northside Freshman Geir Falck-Pedersen finished in tenth place with an outstanding time of 12:52.11. Geir Falck Pedersen ran the first mile in 6:02, and then ran the final mile in 6:50 for an official time of 12:52.11. Northside Freshman Sarrin Chethik finished in eleventh place with an outstanding time of 12:54.12. Sarrin Chethik ran the first mile in 6:23, and then ran the final mile in 6:31 for an official time of 12:54.12.

 In the 55m Hurdles, Northside Junior Lucien Fitzpatrick WON it with an official time of 8.73.

 In the 55m Dash, Northside Senior Nathaniel Agharese WON it with an outstanding time of 6.72. Northside Sophomore Tom Frejowski ran an outstanding time of 7.27. Northside Freshman Steven Kataba ran an outstanding time of 7.37. Northside Sophomore Michael Walt ran an outstanding time of 7.82. Northside Freshman Jack Svoboda ran an outstanding time of 7.93. 

 In the 800m run, Northside Senior Patrick Brennan WON it with an outstanding time of 2:05.43. Brennan passed Northside Alumni legend John Krumsee (2:05.80) on the 800m All-Time list. Patrick Brennan ran the first 400m in 60 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 65 seconds for an official time of 2:05.43. Whitney Young Senior Logan Means finished in second place with an official time of 2:05.89. Northside Sophomore Malcolm Grba dropped five seconds (2:13.23) from the Niles West Invitational to finish in third place with a personal best time of 2:08.48. Malcolm Grba ran the first 400m in 62 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 66 seconds for a personal best time of 2:08.48. Whitney Young Senior Joshua Warren finished in fourth place with an official time of 2:12.82. Whitney Young Senior Taro Salinas finished in fifth place to complete the scoring with an official time of 2:12.95. St. Ignatius Senior Jack Keelan ran an outstanding time of 1:59.54, as an exhibitition runner.

 In the 4x200m Relay "A", Northside Freshman Jack Svoboda ran a 200m split of 29.00 on the first leg of the relay. Sophomore Michael Walt ran a 200m split of 25.89 on the second leg of the relay. Freshman Keith Jones ran a 200m split of 28.80 on the third leg of the relay. Freshman Steven Kataba anchored the Mustangs to sixth place with a 200m split of 25.86 for an official time of 1:50.63.

 In the 4x200m Relay "B", Northside Junior Jay Yu ran a 200m split of 28.70 on the first leg of the relay. Sophomore Alejandro Ballesteros ran a 200m split of 33.86 on the second leg of the relay. Northside Freshman Justin Washington ran a 200m split of 29.75 on the third leg of the relay. Sophomore Calvin Kuhnen anchored the Mustangs to eighth place with a 200m split of 27.29 for an official time of 2:00.06.

 In the 4x200m Relay "C", the Mustangs were forced to scratch the relay because Sophomore Gabe Jimenez-Ekhman, Freshman Ronald Rodriquez, and Junior Lawrence Riley were not at the meet.

 In the 400m run, Northside Sophomore Matt Osborne dropped 3.27 seconds (61.74) from the Niles West Invitational to win his heat, and finish second overall with a personal best time of 58.47. Northside Sophomore Max McCoy finished fourth overall with a personal best time of 60.05.
